Blasted Car People! Smacked While Sitting Still!
« on: June 27, 2009, 08:29:12 PM »
So.....

..... I am stopped at a red light, waiting for a chance to make a right turn.  There are 2 cars ahead of me and I am more than a fair distance behind the car right in front of me.

The light goes green..... the very first car at the light just sits there.  The woman (wouldn't you know) right behind me, smacks into my bike.  I am punched forward, my body lurched backward, manage to stop the bike and look behind me.  The woman's on her cell phone.....

I kill the engine, get off the bike.  Walk back and look at my "new" rear fender.  Bottom of the fender and license plate are bent up and tucked under itself so that the fender is jammed on the rear tire.  Bike can't move.

Well, I won't bore you with all the details........ it's just ticked me off because she said what's the big deal...... I just dented your fender.

Anyway....... Now I'm looking for a good rear chrome fender.  I think Honda stopped making these.  Anyone know different than that?  Anyone know of a good used one?

I've got a CB750 K4........ all stock.

Thanks for listening......

P.S. Edit Add On......... This is the second time on this bike.  The first time was about 3 years ago..... literally almost a killer...... I went through the car's windshield..... I think I know from now on, I will say a prayer before I get on my bike....

That really sucks man. I don't know if I would be able to keep from kicking her fenders in after that.

I had a close one like that a few weeks back and it might have been the crack of my exhaust that alerted him to stop. I was just ready to launch to the ditch when I saw him filling my mirror and I think the loud pipes saved me.

Good to hear you're in one piece

I hope she is going to pay for a new stock fender (around $200 no doubt).

Anyway glad it wasnt much worse (which it easily could have been). Make sure she pays for it and for me its another reason cell phone texting and calling should be banned while driving.

best wishes

Glad you are ok. My cousin had something similar happen to him, and the dumb person had the audacity to imply it was my cousins fault for riding a scooter. He nearly unloaded on her, but he made them follow him down to the scooter shop and buy all new stuff that they had damaged. People can be unbelievable. I have standing orders that if I get killed because of someone elses negligent stupidity, that my wife is to sue their insurance so badly that they can never get insurance again. Won't bring me back, but I'd rest better  >:(

the 341 rear fender is nearly non existant n.o.s. "What's the big deal," eh? Hope she learns this lesson the hard way. Good that you weren't hurt. You're a better man than I. I'd have lost it. Best of luck.

You get points for patience, jaknight. I think I would have unloaded. O.K., says I, if it's just a fender, hop up on a bike and let me rear end you with a car. Glad you're O.K.

I seriously would have called the police. You guys have the 'no celphone while driving' law yet?

In any case, she rear ended you. her insurance needs to buy you a new fender. Hows your neck? I'm just sayin....

That's ridiculous. I hate it when people drive while on there phone.
My name is Joe and i have been riding motorcycles since i was 18. Two years ago i had some engine trouble with my 79' Malibu and my friend VwDan (yes, the same from this forum) loaned me his cb450 for a week. I fell in love with the bike and picked up a sweet 77' cb550. The end. Ride safe!

Glad to hear that you are okay and able to ride another day.

90% of the near death experiences I've had on my bike came from women on cellphones.

Hmmm...I wonder what life would be like without the cell phone.  ???

Uhg... I used to dislike cars when I rode my bicycle everywhere.  Now that I have the Honda, I have a newfound hatred for people on cellphones.  Twice, TWICE in two weeks someone on a cellphone has pulled out in front of me.  First was in Cherry Hills Village (those of you in Denver know the area, and the people).  Lady is in the turn lane at a light, looks straight at me, and still pulls into my lane.  I got up next to her and gave her a "WTF" look and she just kept yakking and driving.

Yesterday, downtown Denver a lady pulls in front of me from a side street, cellphone glued to her ear.  Same thing.  Looks at me like "Was that bad?  Should I not have done that?"

I am going to start keeping my pool cue/attitude adjuster on my bike.  "Honest officer, I have no idea how her fender got like that.  Maybe she pulled out in front of some other motorcyclist and they hit her?"

Damn cell phones. Both of my more recent near misses were both cell phone drivers. Now you have to be even more careful. But glad you're OK. May not be easy but you'll track down a good fender somewhere. I just got one from bikeboneyard. Not perfect by any means, but better than what came off- and only $25.

its probably a hell of alot easier getting her a new windshield than getting you a new fender. I would have sent my adjustable wrench through her windshield, if she said its just a fender to me.

Dang, guys. You are all big talkers on the internet! From the sound of it you all must be gettin' into brawls weekly. I think it is safe to say most people aren't aware of parts availability for SOHC Hondas. We're all ignorant about various things. It doesn't excuse a sh1tty attitude, though. There's a lot of inconsiderate people out there.

It's not the parts the people are worried about, it's their lives. It's a whole lot easier to talk about smacking someone around than it is paying the lawyer fees after you've actually done it. Venting...they are all just venting.

Jaknight, you said your setup was all stock (was, except for that new fender).   Do you have convex mirrors on the bike, if not, anybody know where to get some that fit?    I find my flat mirrors leave me desiring a bit more, sometimes I don't check them b/c the view is so poor (bad habit, I know).

Glad you're okay, I'd've been, ummm, hard pressed to control myself.   Hope I never get the opportunity.

Agreed. The last cell phone driver I had an encounter was crossing from a side street. I had my middle finger three feet from their window. And yet somehow, they were pissed at me for giving them the finger. Prior to that it was very similar, on the cell phone, pulled in front of me - near miss - I had to swerve and pass. Again, they looked pissed at me?

I think we have very good reason to have an attitude towards idiot drivers.

Glad to hear it was a fairly "light" accident and you didn't get hurt.  It really bugs me when you hear the "what's the big deal" reply form these idiots.  I have been lucky so far as not to have an accident on the bike, but I have gotten the "what's the big deal" crap when a lady opens her door into the side of my pickup while I was sitting in the truck.  I approached about the new ding, and she said "it's just a pickup truck"....I nearly exploded and told her sorry ass that my pickup cost damn near as much as her Infinity she was driving, and asked if it was OK to dent her car door so we have matching dents.  She gives me that WTF look...Crap I wanted to dent that car Sooooooo bad.

I know exactly what AngryGreek said about the Denver area Dumb Butts.  No kidding, driving on I 25 you can see so many people on thier cell phones it is amazing.  My wife says that I shouldn't be looking at other drivers while I drive.  I tell her I'm not staring, I'm just seeing if they are on the phone or texting so I can stay away from them.
My fantasy is to carry a pocket full of 6mm nuts to fling into thier wind shields as I pass them.  Of course I'll never do it.

I heard a funnier suggestion that I've been tempted to take up. Go to the DMV/RMV/whatever, and pick up a bunch of the driver instruction booklets--the ones you're supposed to read before taking the written test. When someone torques you, catch them at an intersection, knock on the window, give them a booklet and tell them that you think they need it more than you.

It wouldn't work as well on a bike, though.

I got rear ended at a red light - the opposite lane got a green light/green arrow, and the girl behind me decided to go. Luckily she was in an Escort and I was on my Nighthawk, so it just bent my license plate up. I bent it back down, and she was very very apologetic, so I didn't make a big deal out of it.

+1 on that one! My bad attitude toward ignorant drivers (motorcycle and car) grows more and more even after my accident. After someone totaled my Bonneville which was my only vehicle, I only got enough cash to pay for a non op SOHC which I still can't get running. I still owe $2,500 on the Bonneville and I never even got an apology. It is a big deal, we do get angry for a reason.

I checked the rear fender on the Honda Of Troy Ohio's website they have it listed for 106.75$ under this part number 80100-341-000. Usually, but not always, when Honda lists a price for a part they still have it.
