Quite pipes?
« on: July 01, 2009, 01:09:18 PM »
I've been looking around and it seems all pipes that I can find for the 550 are pretty loud. I'm wanting to find or make the quitest pipe possible for my bike.
Any suggestions?

What kind of pipes do you have on there now?  Depending on your answer, you could try to find replacement baffles for the pipes.

I  have a laser header on one, and the stock head tubes on the other. No cannister, megaphones, or any kind of baffle yet. I'm looking for advice before I  buy something for the projects.

The stock 4-into-1 for the 550F is damn near the quietest pipe I've ever heard.

Any clue what the baffle in the 4 into one looks like. From my research it looks like there might be some fabrication in my future.

+1

I've got the 4 in 4 on my 550K and they're super quiet (and pricey)   I've also heard the 4 in 1 for the 550F, very quiet as well (also pricey I'm sure).

I agree, with maybe the stock 77-78 CB550K 4 into 4 being pretty close in sound level.  They are both very comfortable on long rides.  Lots of people don't realize how fatiguing noise can be.  Even if you like the sound, it wears on you over time.  I don't know of any aftermarket type exhaust systems that provide a sound other than loud.

I assume the OP meant quiet pipes rather than quite pipes.

1978 cb 550k......stock,my first re-build

Loud pipes suck.......

If you buy something.........pay for it !
If you sell something .......ship it !
If you say you are going to do something......do it !
If you have a question about something......ask it !
When the seller answers ........let him know whether you still want it or not !
If you receive something .....let the seller know you got it !
If you get something and are happy/un happy with it .....let the giver/seller know !
If you have any kind of issue,shipping/receiving/quality/price/shipping charges etc !

Yes, I meant quiet. You would think that after 10 years of doing tech support I would have fewer typos.
Back on topic. Any suggestion on baffle fabrication or purchasing? I've seen louvred and perforated baffles. Any clue as to which muffle better? My FZR has a perferated D&D and it's quiter than most aftermarket CB pipes. This is odd as D&D are known for being loud.
Razor I would put a cannister on but I'm trying to  keep a period look on this CB. The cafe 550 will have a cannister.
Thanks for the link tjjkc I'll PM the guy
