Realistic gas mileage 350F
« on: July 29, 2009, 06:42:28 AM »
What is an acceptable and realistic gas mileage that I can expect from a 350f?  Currently I've been getting about 30-35mpg, which seems low.  I have a new air filter, MAC4-1 up sized main jets (forgot which size)to help the lean conditions.  3 of the plugs are a little sooty.  Could probably use a carb sync.

Basically I want to know how far out of whack my mpg is.  The bike runs well, if a bit rough on the rare occasion.

When I babied mine around, I got as much as 60mpg.
When I throttled her, maybe as low as 40.
No.

Thats about as bad as my 6'8" 220 lb frame hulking around on my 550!  ;D

lol...having the drag coefficient of a brick does not equate to good gas mileage!  ;D

A little over 10,000 on the bike.  Rebuilt carbs.  No leaking or overflow. Plugs are a little sooty on cylinders 1,3,4.  Cylinder 2 if anything is a tad lean.

I get 34-36 on mine. Mac 4>1 stock 75 jets. I weigh 200lbs and flog it always. Curious as to the top speed you achieve? If I tuck and wait a minute ill hit 80 . As soon as i sit up its 70.Id like to get bigger jets but I dont want to deal with retuning this thing. As it is it runs good now. Anyone with 4 extra 80 or 85 jets? Ive got 4 new 75s to trade.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

I think mine has 78 jets.  I have gotten it up to 90 (according to the speedo).

I've hit an indicated 100 on mine. A proper tuning should get you better gas mileage and higher top speed, assuming compression is good.
No.

Boy, these little guys sure are thirsty!  I just checked mine when I topped-up and calculate it got 38 mpg (US gallons).  Its better when I do the conversion to British gallons (46 mpg), which is what I was used to in Canada.  We now are metric so the gas is sold in litres.  I almost get that mileage on my 1800cc Goldwing!

On my 350 with stock intake and MIVV exhaust (Air screws set to stock and needle clip one step leaner than stock) I'm averaging 47-50 mpg. With the same setup with my old 4-2 system I got a consistent 55 or more mpg with an all time high of 65 when I did a lot of in town driving.

On my 750 I get 44-48mpg. My GL1500 goldwing gets about 42. Here's the interesting part. The Goldwing used to get 5mpg better than that 'til I switched from Motul to Amsoil synthetic. At first I thought the drop was due to seasonal fuel change. But it hasn't increased. In 15 or 20 years, when I run out of Amsoil, I'll try Motul again - see if the mileage improves.
These mileages, by the way, are 2-up conservative driving.

I mentioned my poor mileage on the CB350F a few posts ago.  I think I know why it's so poor.  Today I was out for a spin and found it to start fading on the highway with no power.  I pulled over and saw gas flowing out the overflow tubes.  Tried tapping the float bowls but they wouldn't stop spewing gas, so I headed home while turning on and off the petcock so that it would just keep the bowls full.  I've pulled the carbs and am going to replace the o-rings with the correct ones that I now have, as well as clean the float valve seats.  Hope that does the trick.

On another note of mileage, I was out on the 2003 GoldWing (1800cc) and filled it with gas after having ridden 400 Km on the tank.  I calculated my mileage from that tank as being 54 mpg (British - 45 mpg US gallon).  Not bad for some fast highway, and half with the pillion occupied!  Now, I should be able to better that with a 350 Four.

Mine has about 28,000 miles, Mac 4-1, stock air filter.  I run it hard and get 48 MPG.  I am 6' and 250(when I last checked milage.  I have dropped 15 since then.).  It will be interesting if that makes a difference.
