Nation wide breakdown service.

In the UK there are 3 major services, the AA, RAC and Green flag.

Paid like an insurance policy, if you break down they will come and get you going or take you to the nearest repair shop.

For a higher premium, they will take you home or to your chosen destination.

Is there anything like this in the USA?

I've heard if you're a AAA policy holder, this sort of thing is possible.

The AMA have a roadside recovery program. Never used it but it operates as getting you to a garage for a reduced two-truck fee. No where near as good as the UK programs but its something.

cheers

Thanks Guys, I need to get an insurance policy in place for my trip as, riding a bike over 125 invalidates my travel insurance.
Is AAA an insurance company or a breakdown company?

For Autos, tripleA is one of the last truly fantastic deals.  You pay the yearly, you call, a tow truck arrives and takes you anywhere within 100M - no hassle.  I haven't used it for moto but my guess is it's the same sort of thing.

A lot of insurance providers offer the same kind of service if you choose it.  We have USAA and breakdown service/towing is a very inexpensive add-on.  Same with providing a rental car.  When my wife's car was wrecked back in February they had a rental car reserved and ready for her the next morning, and they even picked her up to go get it.
