Wheel/Rim sources
« on: July 14, 2009, 07:10:46 PM »
Was wondering if anyone knew of some reliable places to purchase wheels/rims? I'm looking into doing a 17" conversion in the front and back as few have done here. Only luck I've had so far is Buchanan's website. Supermoto's seem to run a similar configuration I want but can't find many places that'll just sell the rim. The stores pre-lace aftermarket hubs to the rims making them extremely pricey. Thanks, Ray.

I was going to post a new thread about this but your question is a good place to start too. I just received a new rim via ebay purchase from meyer motorcycles in percy, Il. It's for a 75 750. It was billed a NOS. As it turns out, it's certainly not old stock, but it is a new rim made in Indonesia by D.I.D, a Japanese company that has a good reputation for their motorcycle chains. Looks like D.I.D also makes all sorts of rims and spokes. So, there's a source for you. Just google DID rims and you'll get their web site, but that isn't so helpful. You can it on ebay and get a wide selection of whole wheels or rims or spokes.

The rim I have bought looks well made and the chrome looks pretty good. It was wrapped in DID paper and had an official looking Honda OEM sticker on it, but  the sticker also indicated it was made in Indonesia. The only problem I have with any of this is it isn't really NOS as I understand it and did I pay a premium for NOS when in fact it isn't. The rim price was $99.95 plus shipping.

Anyone's thoughts here.

Buchanans pretty much owns the market. I've bot from others (East Coast Wheels) and the spokes came in Bucky papaer with instructions on Bucky letterhead.

Why don't you want to use them? Most knowledgable and able to make anything. I'm putting 17s on my project CB750K2 standard, both from Buckys.  YOu can have then build it or build your own with their parts and save the labor, though it really isn't much considering. They did my front, I did the rear.

Certain high volume kits like 16" conversions are available elsewhere liks TAS, but other than that...

There was a guy on Ebay that was selling rims for KZ900-KZ1000's, they were 40 spoke 19" WM-2 and 40 spoke 18" WM-3  I remember emailing him about it and he thought they'd be fine for a CB750 with a rear disc brake, but the holes may be angled wrong for the K bike's drum rear.

If you're looking to restore, Z1enterprises sells the same 19 front and 18 rear used on the 69-76K's for about $80/90, respectively. You have to look under the KZ900/1000 wheel section. I guess it would be cool lacing the rear to the front but I can't find a 17x3.5 or 17x4.5 rear steel chrome wheel. Plenty of 16" Harley wheels but I just think it looks too big...I don't know. I'll just continue to search around
