To All:

Just to get a little more mileage out of this reissue thread, suppose there were just ONE thing you would like to see changed/improved on the SOHC/4's, what would it be?

I'd say it's a toss-up between electronic ignition or fuel injection for me....

I would have to say modern brakes front and rear...

upgraded suspention would be nice too...those two things go hand in hand...you can have great brakes but if you have crap for suspention you will have a scary time on braking...and at the same time better suspention will improve your braking capacity...

I ride a 750...maybe it is easier to stop a smaller CB but if you ride a 750 fast and you run stock brakes you had better plan ahead ...it is no easy feat to stop my 500lbs monster in a short distance...

I would like to see it fuel injected and electronic ignition. I am sure they can get more power today. The Stainless steel 4 into 4 with a bit more growl. Upgraded suspension. I would leave the styling alone.

Mr. Wessner posed a good question. Let us answer it correctly. Pick one (1) item you would upgrade or add to the already great Honda CB series motorcycle.

If you would like, add other things that you would also add or upgrade but pick one (1) item to be singled out. It may also be prudent to add the year and model motorcycle you are refering to.    ie. 1978 CB750K8

Well, my jeep has way more HP than AMC ever intended it to have, and it still handles like a early '80s jeep, so I choose Horse Power!  I will stick with what I know.

In my CB750K1, I would love to have a rear brake that doesn't lock and a more powerful front brake. I will ask for them this Christmas....

I'll cast my vote for an affordable 4-into-4 exhaust. Stainless with a chrome look would be nice too. My originals rusted out in the mid '70's. I don't know why I didn't even consider replacing them with a 4-into-4 at the time - probably the same thing that's stopping me now... $$$. Of course those of us that are trying to restore out bikes like new, would like to see side panels, gauges, shocks, duck tailed seats and recessed ignitions too.  ;D

Raul

...I had a CBR 600 in 94 and my rear brake locked when braking hard, so I don't know that the problem would be solved with modern brakes...

back to the retro issue...IMHO what makes these bike special is the "S" in SOHC.  This makes them easy to work on, more reliable and bullet proof.  No doubt a "reproduction" would be DOHC.  Lets not forget how big a flop the 10 year annaversary CB750 was.

Is it inconcievable to think a modern mortorcycle could be an SOHC???

I do not see why a retro could not be a sohc. It should since in many cases there is little preformance gain from a dohc.

I think my vore would have to be like 6packs, Complete availability of parts but if we are talking for the retro, then I say an EI.

I have to agree with ProTeal on this one whole heartedly. Maybe something in the works of dual vented front disc with 4 piston calipers. How about a way to retain the rear drum brake look but have a hidden disc? It could be done.

Dual vented disc's up front would be great. Stopping one of these
bikes at a good rate of speed is def. a scarry thing.

I would keep the overall look of the bike the same , with just some
more modern touches...

IM sure there was once talk of a "Chinese" built 500 four using the old Honda design/technology. I cant remember where I saw it,though it was quite a few years ago,I remember thinking Id like to buy one.

I'd say it's a toss-up between electronic ignition or fuel injection for me....

Yes electronic ignition or fuel injection with  SS 4X4 cb400 style exhaust with removable baffles/megaphones, Chrome valve/stator,clutch,chain,trans, covers, Wider rear tires, Center stand that was not a Spark-O-Matic on corners, make the frame so different seat configurations would be possible. Use as many of the old parts as possable so we could use them on ours.
These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

I ride the 750 daily to and from work.  It is a great bike but there is one thing I am aware of all the time and that is it won't stop very hard compared to my CBR, or even the R100GS.  I ride in traffic so the limitations of the brakes compared to modern ones is a real consideration.  It has occurred to me something could happen because of the old fashioned brakes that could be avoided if I was on something more modern.  But I ride it anyway.
