Tire Advice for K8
« on: November 19, 2005, 06:46:20 PM »
Thanks for all Carb help, Bike is Purring like it did'nt have a 20 year nap...now needs new rubber...Starting to believe now that the K8's may just be indestructible!!!   My next challenge...Almost no one stocks "Matched" Front and rear tires that would fit my 78 750k.  Question...Can the rear frame tolerate the 130/90 H17 vs. the equivalent 120/90 for the 4.50 H 17?  No problem with the front, everytime I try to match up a Front and Rear it appears though available from the Mfr. Pirelli, Bridgestone, Dunlop etc. no dealers stock the rears in 120/90 sizes.   If the bike can handle the slight extra width without damaging the Rim it seems like the way to go...Really like some of the new tread designs.

I run Dunlop 491 Elite II on the front and rear on my CB750K8.

Front:  MM90 - 19 M/C 61H
Rear:   MT 90 B - 17 M/C 76H

BTW...Check out americanmototire.com. I looked everywhere for tire prices and they were by far the cheapest. I got very fresh tires, quickly..

You have to have someone mount them and some cycle shops wont mount a tire that you dont buy from them but if you look you will find someone who will mount and balance them.

Even with paying for the mount and balance, buying the tire from them guys was FAR cheaper than any other shops I looked into.

Thanks...Ordered from Motorcycle Superstore before your second advice posted...Free shipping but cost still a higher than site you suggested.  Teach me to be a bit more patient i suppose.  Have mounted tires successfully in past, will save some bucks there.  Balancing may be better left to pros though.  IF they will touch after I mount!!!  Appreciate your insight Buffo!!!

Thanks...
I have seen(and worked beside) both types of shop tech, those that treat each bike like it was theirs and those that acted like they needed to be somewhere else your bike was keeping them from it.  Kind of like choosing a Doctor, you need to make a few visits before you really get comfortable.  Funny when I think about it, I avoid going to Doctors "and" Mechanics until I have no other options and it is for the same reason!  I have gotten pretty good at finding solutions to mechanical problems and this forum is an excellent source for factory specs balanced with the real world advice from others experience of what works really well.  I have lurked here, read and fixed, if could not figure it out asked questions and got solutions in minutes.  Hope I can contribute some day to repay.

But HELL, You guys all ready know this!!! Lets Go RIDE! ___/------\___

No doubt about it...When you really need either a Good "PRO" Wrench, or Doc, there is no substitute!  Like to do all I can to limit my time in both establisments until it is time.  And you KNOW when its TIME.  :(
