Front lester mags, dual or single disk question
« on: July 25, 2009, 09:48:31 AM »
I have seen front lester mags with dual and single disc brakes.  Are these the same mag, or are there different ones for each application?  I have a 78 cb750f I would like to find a front mag for it.

Thanks!

Your single and dual disc mags are 6 hole mount?

And the 78F is  5 hole, correct?

I know of a bike a 71 750, the guy used an F frontend, and his 6 hole Morris mag.. not sure how he mounted it, but am thinking he either drilled an extra hole, or left one bolt out?

Did lester make 5 bolts? They were still advertising in 77 (tubeless compatible), so I imagine, they built some for Fs

I dont have any cad program, but if someone knows the bolt circle diameters, you can draw it and check.. maybe Fishhead has coverted one?

Last year I had a Lester I found at a swap meet & flipped for a nice profit, it had the 6 holes right through the hub like a stock spoked hub has and you could bolt up two rotors no problem.  This was an earlier wheel not for a tubless application.

Do you know, if some of their rims, have secondary bump beside the bead seating area(inside the rim).

The bump would assist in holding bead in place if it lost air.
Now I am not sure, if ALL tubeless have that.

I did take a quick look at a 16 in Lester, it did not seem to have the bump.

Lester did make the front mag for the 5 bolt brake discs.
I've never converted a 6 to 5 bolt wheel (or vise versa- using stock discs) as I usually do "different" brake conversions.

The Lesters can be used single or dual disc, but some of the Lesters dont have the notches in the hub for the modified (dual discs) speedo drive.

Fishhead is right. You have some machining for the speedo drive on the Lester. I believe ALL lesters were tube only. Dan

The 77 ad clearly states you can run tubeles. (Green ad with Beemer in it)

On the other dual disc thread, I suggested an easier mod for the speedo, foe dual disc. Need a drill, welder , piece of rod or dowel..DIY at home.
