missed opportunities
« on: August 03, 2009, 04:33:45 AM »
Damn I wish I had a trailer this past weekend!  I scan craigslist everyday in search of exactly these kinds of deals:  I found a cl450 in pieces for $125 about an hour away from me.  On the very next morning I found ANOTHER CL450 for $50 (!!!!!!!) an hour in the other direction!  For less than $200 I could have had a complete twin project.
We don't have a truck in the immediate family.  My car is a Subaru Outback which could easily pull a motorcycle trailer, but, I still haven't put a hitch on it.  If I had a hitch I could have rented a trailer and ....yadayada.
How do you all deal with missed opportunities like this?  This drove me crazy over the weekend.  Not that I have time or money for another bike project but come on!
Oh well, I guess I'll get that hitch in the next couple of weeks and keep looking!

i got the opportunity to get a free suzuki titan this past winter. since my bike trailer was in bits and pieces i just dismantled the titan and put the parts into the back of my saturn wagon. the motor was out of the frame, sll i realy hsd to do was pull the front end off to stick the chassis in the back. didnt even have to fold the back seat down.

I would have done the same as fuzzy, old sheet or blanket over the seats and strip it down put what you can in the boot (trunk) and the rest on the back seat  ;), cheers Mick.

Hauled my Indian Chief back to Illinois from California
in the back seat of a '62 Olds four door.
Took off the rear wheel and front forks,
tossed the bottom part of the rear seat and slid that baby in.
--3 inches to spare !
Rode low across the Mohave.
If there's a will, there's a way.

Absolutely. I carried my Honda home in my Del Sol. Frame and engine fit perfectly in the trunk. Wheels, forks, and swing arm in the front, then boxes of parts any where they could fit.

I just figure if I'd have tried the seller would have sold it to someone else for more money by the time I got there, even if I had called ahead (yes, it has happened to me  >:( )  I console myself with the realization that there will be other deals in the future and if I was meant to have this one I would have had it (kinda fatalistic I know, but lying to myself helps sometimes  ;) )

Sure it's for sale! How much you ask?? Well, how much are you willing to pay??? Now triple it, that's the price!

I bought a ducati 250 , less forks, on ebay in Bremerton Wa
I was sniping trying to get it with the Ceriani dirt forks, it went for 137.00...and the buyer said, I only want the forks!... so I got the rest for 75.

Drove the Saturn 4dr down, started taking the bike apart, everything we wanted to take off was welded... >:( :o

It was rough, but a good core.. Scrambler head, with bigger valve, fairly hot cam , and  batteryless ignition..

You are not lying, you are lying in wait for the better deal. Probably had broken cams and a dirt dobbers nest in the carbs... ;)
NOW that is what I tell myself... ;D
