1959 Isle of Man TT classic stuff
« on: July 27, 2009, 01:07:22 AM »
Check this out, I was reading an Aussie bike mag and came across this internet site.
Supposedly you can hear the racing RC142 running but I haven't been able to find that part of the site.

http://world.honda.com/MotoGP/history/RC142/

EDIT: OK found it, just click on a picture to hear this wee beastie scream.

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

That thing is so sick.   I wish I could have the ringtone on my phone but I don't know how to do it.
Keep it shinny side up.

I've had the pleasure of seeing and hearing this run round the TT circuit a long time back - it's awesome and you could hear it for ages before you saw it. I've also seen the honda six and the Guzzi V8 over there but (and you'll like this Hush), the bike that you could hear for miles before you saw it and still raises the hairs on the back of my neck thinking about it, was the Britten V1000. There was just something about the exhaust note that carried for miles and miles - a truly awesome machine...

Yea I looked on the site and theirs a video of this old asian dude riding it. Seems like an awesome machine wouldn't mind taking it for a test ride.
Keep it shinny side up.

Does your phone let you record voice notes?  If so it should also give you the option of saving the recording as a ringtone.  I do this on my phone all the time.

I could watch the sequence where Andrew Stroud wheelies alongside Pascal Picotte's factory Ducati in the Daytona infield until the tape wears out - superb stuff...

In the early days of the internet, round 95' , i was in contact with a guy who worked on the britten's crazy exhaust system, cant remember his name.

Could be nice to track him down again.

I do remember that he raced a Guzzi V50,

Well I went Britten mad as you can see form the leathers in my avatar. I also have CRS britten leathers for racing. Have to say I've had a couple of beers with Shaun Harris in the Isle of Man and in a very bizarre incident, Andrew Stroud rang me in the UK from NZ at Christmas one year! Think that was set up by my GF of the time....I still have loads of Britten merchandise, John Britten was a true genius IMHO

I've had the pleasure of being a scrutineer at our national roadracing board for years and during 'my time' had the chance to lay my hands on several very special bikes, including the Britten! I can say I was more busy drooling over it than scrutineering. What a piece of master machinery! Like with the death of Joey "Yer Maun" Dunlop I cried over John's death, without actually knowing the man! Every now and then I watch the DVD and still get emotional, specially the part where Andrew Stroud wheelies past Pascal Picottes factory Ducati, just love the screaming of the Britten family. John RIP.

Rob
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

Yep, Mr. Creppaldi of CRS in Milan still owns one Britten. He campained it extensively in the good days of BEARS and BOTT and believe he was at Assen at one point, so Rob might have seen it too.

If i remember right, he lost a rider at one point and didnt have the heart to continue campainig it.

BTW, he is making now these street supermonos with BMW singles called VUN and sits next door to Mr. Patoni, who makes now the 70hp Paton 500 twin replicas for classic racing.

Nice little complex in the outskirts of milan.
