My general Honda CB questions!
« on: November 21, 2005, 02:40:15 PM »
Hi!

I've had a topic earlier regarding caféracerparts, and got great response, but now it seems lost!

What I'm looking for now is parts for 550F's, because I have to choose which bike I want, and if there aren't too many parts made for the 550, I wont be going for that model!

If you can find the old topic, it would be nice! (Same topic name, search result = 0)

How exactly do you teach abstinence though?
It's like beating a dead cow, it's fun, but it doens't really get you anywhere.

Hi Lassenc,

At race meets one quite often sees the mid sized 4s in race trim, so if they can find the parts then so should you.

Try asking around at classic race meetings,   I'm sure someone would be able to help you.

Send your fellow countryman Harry a PM,  he may know of something in your country.

Good luck,

Sam.

Old bike barn has some cafe racing kits. I was thinking about getting one of these for my 550.

Hey lassenc,

I have a cb550 in cafe racer trim. There are loads of stock parts available for these bike and plenty of upgrades.

Here’s a not comprehensive list of upgrade that I know are available in the states.

Tapered head bearings from “All Balls” or with the specs you could find what you need for less from a bearing supplier. Fork brace from “Teleflex,” which turn up used on occasion but might still be available new. “Progressive Suspension” makes springs and shocks which have served me well. I think that better swing arm bushings are available but I’m not sure from whom. There are hopped up cams and valves available from “Megacycle” among others. Ignitions from “Dyna” . . . .

Basically you could spend as much as you like to thoroughly caffeinate your scoot. I picked one up with all the above suspension upgrades done and some very trick brake work. I’ve since redone the motor and added an oil cooler, and . . .

Cafe racers are a bunch of fun to build and work on. The 550 is a great candidate.

I was thinking more like seats, tanks, rearsets and so on :)

Sounds great!

I was thinking on something, the black stribe or color, whatever, that's on the original petrol tank, is  that a decal added, or painted onto the tank itself?
