Topic: aluminum cr750 oil tank

i dont know if this is in the right spot or not, if not i'll move it. anyways..........this winter, or whenever i get the courage up to tear back into the k4, i want to do an oil tank like the cr750's had. i'm wondering if anyone here might know of where i can get a template showing size and shape of all the panels? and also what kind of baffling or piping inside the tank that it might need?

Jeff, don't even think about it, unless you have one in front of you to copy, it is imposible to write down all the measurments, I tried it for Rob Voxonda, it gave me a headache after about half an hourof trying.

it's back together, just waiting on the oil lines i brought to a hydraulics shop now. i REALLY carefully flushed all the passages and made sure there was no debris, new o rings around the oil jets too. it sounds and runs good.

ARE there any baffles inside the tank? and do any of the lines extend into the tank, extended from the fittings i mean, or isit just what i see on the outside and thats it? i have some 5mm aluminum plate and as soon as i get some more spare cash i'll get my tank of argon and some aluminum wire and have a go

Hey bucky,

Depending on shape it is good to have beffles inside. The CR has none, as far as I know, because. Just make sure there is always enough oil for the pump for the pump, even in fast lefthanders. One of my first oiltanks was wider on the bottom side and on fast lefthandbends, on a racetrack, the pump suffered oilstarvation. So on the second one I made sure I re-shaped the bottom and welded in a baffle to make sure there is always positive oilfeed. When you mount the return line on the same spot as original, on the bottomside, extend it to about 1/2 inch from the top. On the CR, and mine, the return is already above oil-level.

Hey fuzz...

I just built one for the frankenbike....

Some things to consider.

You'll need a slight standpipe on the inlet. It allows debris and such to settle in the Tank.

As vox said the return can have a pretty tall standpipe.

Put the drain at the lowest point.....mines on the left allowing good access thru the chain and is the low spot on the side stand.

You'll need a vent. Original CB tanks had a nifty separator attached at the vent.

Bucky, here's a cutaway of the original tank. Use for piping pattern.  RR
