Turbo motor questions!
« on: August 15, 2009, 07:57:06 AM »
Hello guys and gals. I have a 2000 model honda cb750 that I ride almost every day and I love it it. Its a fun little light bike to cruise around town. I had the chance to buy another 2000 honda cb750 that had been wrecked really bad (frame bent). But it had good tires and nicer rims then my bike so I bought it for 500.00 bucks the motor only has 4,000 miles on it and runs great. I took the motor out and am trying to build a turbo motor to go into a kawasaki mule that has been highly moded. I put long travel suspension on it and have removed the dump bed and has a spare tire carrier tool box on the back. It also has a front and rear winch to get out of the mud. Its a fun little toy but the motor finally went out in it. I tried to get info on this on atv forums but it wasnt very helpful. So far I chopedd up the factory exhaust and made a exhaust manifold that has a 3 1/2 x 4 inch flnage on it. All the tubes are the same length within a 1/8 of an inch. I have a KKK model k26 turbo for a 1.8 liter volvo atatched to the exhaust manifold. It then goes into a air to air intercooler and then into a custom aluminum intake attached to the carbs. Im wanting to know how to rejet the carbs for a turbo. The motor runs and the turbo spools up super fast. Just need to know how to jet the carbs for a turbo. If yall could point me in the right direction I sure would appreciate it. I did some research and found that you can put 2 washers under the needle in the carb to get some more fuel out of it or I could buy the dynojet kit. Also I was wondering what i should do with the vacum line that went to the fuel petcock. Should I just close it off because my new fuel tank on the mule does not have a spot for a vacum line. Thanks

First off...

Welcome!!  ;D ;D Please fill out your profile and info so we can help you better.

A turbo motor huh? It is a requirement that we need pictures. It's not written anywhere... but I'll hound you until you die.  :D

Go ahead and cap off the vacuum line. If you don't have a provision for it on the fuel tap, you won't be needing it.

As for the fuel mixture, the richer the safer when doing testing. Lean conditions will be increased exponentially when the turbo starts forcing huge amounts of air in the chambers.

Are you running a single car setup or multiple? Here is where pics really help.

Again welcome to the forum!!!

I will snap some pics tonight when the wife gets home and tells me where the camera is at LOL...

I did some research and found how to get extra fuel from lifting up the needle with some washers. So I think that will help. Another question I had is about the oil cooler. The location of the motor is on the back of the vehicle so I have extended the oil cooler lines and bought a 12''x 12'' oil cooler with a electric fan. Is there any other ways to keep these motors cooler since they are not water cooled?

A big oil cooler helps, as well as that intercooler.

One thing to keep in mind is oil line size. Bigger means less pressure at the pump. If there's no pressure she might lock up and pop.

Other than that you could put some fans around it but they wont do all that much.

I'm afraid that you are replacing a water cooled engine with an air cooled one. I know the motors in these side by sides aren't in the front, how do you plan to cool it?
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.
