Sorry to interrupt but the local Maori have put in a claim for your New Zealand bunny, apparently it is "tangata whenua" (belongs to them).
To avoid a cultural incident the New Zealand government would like you to send said bunny back on the next available flight. ;D

Nope the NZ bunny is too Americanized now, so she's staying (except that health care is awefully tempting ;)

Those are the ones!  Hmmm maybe I have something worth keeping here.  Mine unfortunately dont look that nice and will either need to be rechromed, or coated with ceramic or high temp paint.  Besides the cracked one you had, the small flanges have worked well enough?

And back to my picture of my split collars on the previous page...should I bend them to fit within the joint?

Yeah, I really like them and get a lot of compliments on them. They are just quiet enough to be able to start the bike at 3am without neighbors wanting to kill me but if you give the bike some gas they get a good loud roar, fast. I get compliments that the bike "sounds healthy" and what not. . .lol.

I had trouble with that one flange that had cracked and then pieces ending up breaking off of (since I kept running for a while. . . dumb). I had a guy weld up a whole new flange on it, with a TIG welder and then I Dremeled and filed it down to shape - turned our really good and a durable repair. That's something you could do if your flanges are too small or eroded, but I was able to get the rest of mine to work fine - albeit being real careful and using the rubber bands with my shims trick, for the installation. Without the shims, the split flange pieces ("exhaust joint collar" in the Honda parts manual) would keep slipping either past the trumpet end of the exhaust or out of the groove in the cast iron piece.

Can you get a close up picture of the flanged end of your exhaust? I could tell at a glance if it is about the same size as mine are and prove that it is usable as is?

I also think you maybe want to consider a new "exhaust joint collar" set or at least some other used ones, at least, to be sure you have a set all the same size and none are bent out of shape.

Here is a picture of the flange on the end of the header pipes.  Its pretty small.  Does yours look like this?

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.  That flange is way too small.  Post pics of the entire exhaust system so we can see what you're working with.

Is it just me or does that look like the clamp type?

Thats to say it would appear that a spigot is required.

Eh, it's not flared at the end like you'd see with spigot pipes.  They'd larger for the last two or three inches leading up to the end of the headpipe.

+1 To the above comments.

that is not one that would fit on with spigots and a clamp style collar.

that end is not flared nearly enough for the collars you have.

Sorry to say I don't see you ever getting it to seal properly with what you've got.

I'd start trolling for a new one.

Hopefully some of the guru's here will come up with a brilliant idea for ya.

I'm stumped.

You could make some flanges for the ends of the pipes to make it fit at the head pretty easy, but now I'm wondering about the overall pipe diameter.  Too small?

Ya I dunno.  I would use this pipe if I could but it looks like it may be too much trouble.  I need a new exhaust but I dont like my options.  As far as I am aware, I can get a MAC, a Kerker (which I dont know where to buy), or a Marshall exhaust.  I like chrome but not the trumpet style tip, which is the only option for full chrome in any of the companies as far as I can tell.  ONe member here, Squirely, had a Yosh style exhaust.  Cant find one though.  Maybe I'll just get a black canister MAC.  :-\

You could get some stock headpipes and fab up just about anything you want, unless you're looking for a 4 to 1 exhaust.

Yeah, that "flange" is near non-existent compared to the ones on my system - mine are a good 5mm or so.

You could have a welder TIG weld an extended flange on them and then shape them down, yourself, with a file and/or Dremel tool? I had to do that on one of my pipes and it wasn't too hard - you will same some money on the welder by shaping them, yourself.

You definitely should measure the diameter of the pipe though, too, though, as it's hard to believe those were ever for a CB500/550?

Here are a couple of pics of the set-up and how it fits...

The only thing I'm not sure of is this: on the copper "gasket", does it matter which side the seam goes? Towards the head or the pipe flange? Or, does it matter?

Hope these pics help!

Nice pics!

I don't think it matters which way the seam in the gasket faces.

Take them to a welding shop or a mate and get some flanges welded onto them Gorms, it will be your cheapest option and will get you on the road the quickest, as Bunny said you can file down anything to fit.
Later on you can sell them or powder coat them or whatever, time in the saddle is the important thing. ;)
A set of useable SOHC4 pipes are still a very saleable item if they fit.  :)

Unfortunately, Hush, the saddle isn'y quite ready for me yet.  Its a cafe build that about 85% complete.  I have some other things to order from Dennis Kirk and I think I will include an all black canister MAC 4 into 1.  Its just money, right?
