Yep.

I'm not exactly sure on the US/Canadian exchange rate, but that sure seems like a fair enough price for a 70 year old piece of moto-history.

1939 Germany....  say, what was happening there back then, anyway...   :D

If you're wanting to buy, it sounds like a good deal, sidecar and all.

If you're selling,   MAN, it sounds too much....

5K CAD is less than $4600 USD.
Not long ago, I would have payed that much for the damn Stoye alone.
If that rig is available to you for that much money and you don't find a way to buy it, you are flat out nuts.  I mean legally and tragically certifiable and you should be in the car driving there with cash right NOW.

The bike could be anywhere from $5K to $16K depending on condition.  Hard to tell from one picture.

That setup is worth almost 10 times that. Hell, a /2 from the 60's will bring 15k and with a steib could apporach 20k.

This sounds like one of those, if it's too good to be true type deals.

I'm with Ernie. You batsh!t crazy if you don't buy it for that little. Honestly, it's prolly a scam, unless you've seen it/know it's actually for sale.

I mean, hell, slash 5's go for that much here in the states.
No.

Personally, I feel the market has shifted -similar to cars.  The real old stuff is now over-shadowed by the demand for an R69S.

Sidecars are actually quite hard to sell, but the Stoye is much more rare than a Steib- and much more elegant, IMO.  I was irrationally rabid for one for a couple of years, and finally settled for a Steib S500.  Pretty much, if you want a Stoye, you have to sit in the bushes and wait for one to come by.

Oh well... I've seen several things like that on Craigs List.  Always nice bikes -maybe not perfect, but very nice- at prices that are just below going rates to make you sit up.

I like the hammer idea.

+1 on the craigslist scamming.

Happens here ALL the time, mostly with late-model used cars.  Photos of Acuras, Toyotas, Infinitys, etc.  Always beautiful, leather, loaded, etc.  And always a grand or two lower than they should be.

Glad you didn't get taken.

Had the same thing happen to me with a 1969 MG. The funny thing is I very quickly realized it was a scam but I lead the guy on for ages. He actually thought I was going to send him $6000 without ever seeing the car. The sad thing is people fall for this stuff.

Update  on Scammer, Here's an email I just received:

From:  Michelle Pearsley
" Hi,
Thanks for being interested in buying my bike! It`s in perfect condition,no scratches, damages and never been involved in any accidents, never laid off.It has only 4130 km and the price is $5,400 CAD.It has a clear title and free of any liens or loans.Because of my divorce settlement,i own this bike and as a woman without driver`s license i don`t need it so i`m trying to get rid of it as soon as possible(that`s why i`m selling it so cheap) so the first one came is the first one served. We will use eBay`s Vehicle Purchase Protection plan for our both safety,i want only legit transactions.Let me know where are you located and any other details you need about it.
Have a great day!"

My reply:
Hi Thanks for the reply, I'm in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where is the bike located, Can I come have a look at it if your nearby. I am still interested in possibly purchasing this BMW.   Do you have any more pictures you could send me.

                                                                                 All the best,  R.W.

Michelle Pearsely replies today:

Hi again,
I`m located in Montreal(the motorcycle is here with me) right now because i got a new job here, the thing is i`m  very busy and i don`t have time to stay and meet with all my potential buyers, that is why i gave to a shipping company that will ship it to the next owner(on my cost), so i'm trying to sell it online under eBay`s protection. Here is how it works :
The sale will be managed through eBay under their Vehicle Purchase Protection program since they offer the highest rate of safety and reliability during online transactions. They act as a neutral third party. Look how this works:
1. I will contact eBay and give all the info about this deal.
2. They will email us the forms which are needed for our deal(invoice, payment instructions, buyer's and seller's protection policy)
3. You will send the money to eBay and they will notify me to ship the motorcycle to your location.
4. After you will inspect the motorcycle and decide to keep it, eBay will forward the funds to me once you have approved them to do so. You will have 5 days to inspect it.
Please reply with your complete name and shipping address in your next email and let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about this purchase so that I can open a transaction at eBay and to move forward with this deal. After that they will contact you with all necessary information about this transaction(terms, buyer protection, payment instructions,invoice,etc.).
P.S. Once i receive your full name and address we can start talking on the phone too, right now i have too many potential buyers and i can`t talk with all of them,i hope you understand.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now I got to think up something to keep this going longer, anybody know someone in or near Montreal Canada?
I think I'll tell her "What a coincidence my brother lives in Montreal. I'll have him come by your place to have a look at the BMW and tell me what he thinks then I'll just forward him the money so he can give it to you in person to avoid any Ebay fees"

I would ask eBay if any of this is even remotely plausible.  It sure sounds like BS to me.  Didn't someone say they found those photos in some website?

Just tell her that you are travelling on business to Kingston or Ottawa, Ontario next week and that you want to check it over. If all is good you can pay her in person and utilize the shipping arrangement she "already has set up" If it is legit, it would be worth the $500 plane ticket to go get it, after all, she says she is going to pay for the shipping anyway. Besides, Montreal is a nice city to visit, even just for a day.

Just a thought

I think she is saying that it is with a "carrier" and that she does not have time to show it... very busy ya know. This is all BS. Tell her that you are a a prince and Heir to a fortune but due to infighting have been unable to claim it. tell her(likely a him) to send you 10 k to retrieve your money and you pinky promise to send her 10 gazillion certs or whoppers, her choice.  I hate these scum. I think someone should remove all of their dermis and drop them in the ocean. :)

Dear Seller,

This is the exact scam that I encountered with the MGB, right down to the improper language "on my cost". Must be the same people. My seller also got a last minute job and had to move the car to a different location.

Things that make you go hummmmm.......... ???

Here's the reply I sent:

"Greetings,  What a coincidence my brother, Sheik Adnan El Kassey lives in Montreal, perhaps you have heard of him, he was a famous wrestler from 1960 till 1991,  damn that Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior, they defeated The Sheik and Sgt. Slaughter at Summer Slam (1991), pretty much ending his career. Feel free to ask him to demonstrate his deadly Camel Clutch on you, It's a fantastic ice breaker when we attend royal gala's together.

I'll have him go to the shipping company and check the bike over. Just let me know which shipping company is handling the BMW.

I would fly there personally, I am a very wealthy Sheik in Dubai but my health is failing me.
I would send my beautiful virginal single daughter, I love her so much,  but due to infighting amongst other Opec members my assets have been frozen thus I cannot access my vast wealth.
Maybe perhaps you could send me $5,000us to allow my servants to fuel up my Leer Jet so that she may attend the transaction in person.
For this gracious generosity on your behalf I will gladly repay you double, as well as 100 barrels of oil in return when I am able to access my vast wealth again.

If this arrangement is okay I will have my off shore account opened for you to deposit the $5,000us.

                                                                              Thank you and Praise Allah!!!!!!"
