Midwest SOHC rally? Any takers?
« on: December 02, 2005, 08:59:46 AM »
I am seriously considering host a SOHC rally. I have a friend that is a Harley rider (but not brand biased) that does pig roasts for many bike rallies in the area. So the food part would be easily covered (Sorry Terry, no vegimite). Plus I can arrange for the use of the grounds and a live band. Let me know guys as this could become an anual thing.

Hey something like that would be pretty cool. I just have to work on making sure everything is in road trip shape. Hardest part would be deciding on a time I think, for everyone to show up. Have to make sure the woman will go for it! You know how women get!

Having the wives around to share war stories about us might not be a bad thing. It would give us all a chance to meet and have a bonified forum ride.

I will have to try and get her something different to ride too. She has a rebel right now, which is great around town but vibrates kinda like an earthquake! Seat is damn uncomfortable too! Maybe she can drive the truck and pull a trailer...just in case!

I'm in. Not sure if any of my SOHC bikes would be in running shape by then, but I'm sure I could find something to ride.

Dont matter what you ride, so long as you ride. We can tuck the Harley guys in the back of the pack just behind the K8 guys. Wouldnt want them to hurt thier bikes now. ;D

The temptation would be to start out here in Reedsburg, But I think we would have a much easier time with using the state park arena, they would be receptive to us and could provide the area that we need. I was thinking of using the Wildcat Mountain area. Beautiful in the early summer and lots of very nice twistys. Maybe I should start a poll on the date time frame. I want to make sure that we are not trying to do this during any other major established rides.

Depends upon location.  I'm only good for about 400 miles a day, then I need to recuperate.

The text from the pig roast dude.

I dont know the price of pigs for next year yet.  Normally I dont do the
side dishes since Im busy with the pig. This year for a 150# pig
roasted, cut ,and ready to eat ran $300.  I am working with another
friend about doing the sides but she hasnt gotten any prices to me yet.
Figure 1 pound of pig on the grill per person. It sounds like alot but
you got the bone and fat to allow for too. Let me know around the first
of May and I will have a better idea for prices.  I dont fore see any
significant rises in pork prices in the future.

Bob

I am not totally sure how to handle the cash logistics of this. I will have to cash up first and just dont want to be burning my cash. I would hate to eat 150# of pig myself.  ;D

well thats a relief...  :)

wisconsin, huh?  it's a ways but not terribly far.  keep us informed.  i think all you'd really have to do is put together an entry packet... you know, map, entry ticket, maybe some free stuff from local stores or a can of easy cheese in each... i dont think any of us would be opposed to prepaying just as long as we got some sort of notification that our reservation had been made.

I will get all the details ironed out and let eveyone know. I can tell you I am not doing this as profit. More like a chance for everyone to get together. We could have Easy Cheese games? Dont know what that would entail, but I am sure it would make interesting pictures  ;D.

I would offer to set up the trebuchet and we launch some stuff, buy it takes 3 people and a full day to set up. I get the funny feeling it would get out of hand.  ;D

I will. I have never worked out one of these so I will have my buddies coaching (the pig roast guy) to help me along. I will have details by January as camping sites must be booked as early as possible. Right now working out the numbers so everyone is covered for food site and well whatever. BTW it will be a BYOB (bring your own beer) kind of event.

$12 to $17 for the camp sites so far. I am going to bend some arms and see if we can get an event discount. Then it would be $? per head all you can eat. Let me get the details worked out. I really need to know how many takers we have in this. If you are interested please atleast post then I will post the reservation details on this thread. If you have it on watch for new posts you will get the info.

I have been dying to do one of these. With your help we can get this done. I have to have a lose head count. Not the ones loaded into the trebuchet. Really, being completely serious I need to know if you are in.

We need to have 100 takers on this to make this a reality. Resonably it makes the food expenses go down doing the math it comes out to $30 if you bring the wife which I would hope you do because I will, It drops to $15ea. And if you get smart and trailer your bike and bring two kids and two adults it works out to $7.50 each. If we can get a big turn out the price goes down as we go. And that is just based on 100 attendees. I was hoping something in the realm of 150 takers which brings the food costs to somewhere in the realm of $4 each. This is including sides but does not include the camping site.

well, i think i could be counted in if it were after school is out of session (may 11th for me).  honestly, 4 dollars vs. 30 dollars is really not that much difference when i'm coming from colorado but the more you can save me the better considering i plan to do the baja trip over spring break.

Good. I will be calling the DNR (damn near russian as we call it here in Wisconsin) and I will see what the totals are and then we can has out the details. I will start a poll with some weekend dates and we will go with the one with the most votes. We need a big turn out with SOHC pride!  ;D This has gone beyond just funning.

Hey Guy,
For us upper midwest riders, anytime after mid-May is OK riding weather, but in Wisconsin, the weather becomes a little more predictable from June 1 to August 31 as you are well aware of ;D ;D ;D. I'm game anywhere from April 15 to Oct 15. After that camping is too iffy ;D.
You may want to also this post to the Events forum on the main site when you have more definite information. I already have 5 or 6 guys that are casually interested in partaking in the festivites if there's enough time warning! PM me if there's anything I can do to help1

Bowhunter

Another possibility is to post the event to the Vinatge Jap. MC Club. There's a chapter in Milwaukee (not very active) and Chicago.

Will do, calling about the campsites in the next few days and looking at getting the band booked as well as the pig roast.

Hey Cheapo,  Will the Wisc. DNR let you have a band???  They usually will tell you to turn down your radio if it's "too loud"!  They just don't (can't) appreciate good music I guess.
What town is the rally gonna be near / close to?  I'd like to start making plans, and you can most likely at this time count me in.

Pro Teal was planning on a chicago area get together this coming season.  Several responded to his post and I doubt they would mind going a little further North.  My uncle in Michigan(Harley rider, good kind) and I are planning a tour for this summer too.  If this comes to fruition, we're there dude!  Im always in the mood to ride, camp, make fires, and eat charred pig flesh in the summer!

You know what maybe it might be best to have everyone go with Teals deal as he has started out first. I mean how many midwest rallies do we need? Maybe I should cut heads with teal and se what he has planned. I would gladly travel to Chi town for the right get together.
