I think my PO was killed by shotgun wielding rednecks...
« on: September 07, 2009, 12:00:02 AM »
 ;D ;D ;D

Ad said 750$ I was the first there, 500 bucks, title and "runs". Carbs need to be cleaned and the usual. Ridiculous mural on the tank. Spot the coils? Hard to because they are mounted on the rear fender... needs to be rewired. Don't know how to even start describing the wiring situation. Gas line sits on the head of the motor  ::)

I'm not usually in to this style, but for some reason I really liked it. Some narrow low bars, a wash and some subtle changes and I might just not be embarrassed to be seen on her. I want a different tank but hate to loose the mural. I have a buddy with a ridiculously long springer front end I might get from him for this bike. The more 70's the better! Some better pictures tomorrow...

She almost wants to run right, floats might be set a bit too high and she really needs plug wires.

A lower tank, a set of almost flat narrow bars and then I am going to leave her how she is. The front fender is off, anyone want to buy it? Its metal and in good shape.

Still cant decided if I want to put the long springer on it. Will probably make it sit less level (than it already is... )

What do you guys think?   ;D ;D ;D

A K0 brake master cylinder and single pull carbies...Mmmm, have you checked the engine number, it's a '69 or '70 so it could be "One o'dem sandiecasts, boah"

The PO claimed it was a 75 motor but I have not verified it myself, I will tomorrow. How can you tell its a KO master cylinder? For future reference of course.  ;D

I just got to figure out how to wheelie it...

Engine number indicates a 75. Too bad.

Cleaned the carbs out and reset the float height to 26mm (from the carb lip?) They were waaay to high as in letting to much gas into the bowl. Dont know how much it helped because when I was cleaning the carbs I left the key on so my battery is now dead.

After putting them back on number one carb still overflows out the drain tube but only when the bike is on its kick stand? I figured maybe the needle valve was bad but I rechecked it 2 times and it seems stop the gas normally, floats not getting stuck either?  ... hrmm.

Check out the coil set up. The battery is UNDER them. You have to take them out to get to the battery. The regulator and rectifer have yet to be seen. They must be down there somewhere?

I have a feeling once running this bike will see some decent shenanigans.  There is a relatively flat 10 mile stretch of desert I always wanted to see if I could ride a "road" bike across. If the reservation police dont mind that is...

Gas in the float on number one was the culprit. Could not find the hole or get the gas out. Must have got in there with magic. The only other parts set of carbs I have is from a 76K and has plastic floats.

Whats your guys thoughts on mixing the types of floats. 3 metal and 1 plastic? Might be hard to get close enough. All thats keeping me from riding is a clutch lever and a full battery, still no sign of a regulator or rectifer?  ??? ??? ???

Haha, if you have no clutch, no battery and just open road, roll start the damned thing and you could ride all day!

That tank should be preserved for future generations.  Preferably not on a working bike, but still.

I would look at raking out the front end to"level it a bit, i would definitely do this if i were going to put a longer front end on it. +1 on the lower mounting tank, i think it needs it..

She lives!!!! and she tried to kill me twice.

Cannablized a plastic float from some later carbs and get it to match the others. Stuck them on and no go but I had spark. Cleaned, blasted and regapped the plugs and she started right away!

As I was putting on the air filter I had left the bars straight. I had my head down near the tank when my jostling caused the bars to swing back to the left, pinning my head against the bars and tank as it tried to go over  ::)

After I got it running I couldnt help but try and ride it. The clutch adjuster is missing so I dont have any use of the clutch. So I do the only reasonble thing to do in a situation like this is to run as fast you can jump on it then slam it into first. Carbs stuck into a high idle and before I had a full grip on the throttle she took off. Motor is either real strong or its gear low. Front brake was a lot worse than I thought, not of any real use. I was heading toward the end of the cult-a-sac fumbling with my right hand to turn the key off. Its bent so its hard to turn but I got it off before I hit the end. Turning with one hand while using the key switch to go from off to GO. Hearts still going a bit from that.

Anyways lots and lots of smoke, out the back. Cant tell if its oil or burning off all the gas as it was way way rich.

I like this bike already...  ;D ;D ;D

I would check your oil lines from that custom tank to the engine. If they are smaller than stock you are going to starve that mill for oil. I have seen way too many choppers go bad because of this.

"Go?"  This thing's already bad.  The most we can hope for is making sure it doesn't offend women, children and priests.

Certainly has a cool factor to it. Actually seems to be a good base to start from. I would not worry much about leveling the frame unless you really want to but it is your call on the work. The rest should hopefully not be too much to sort out other than electrical.

To much work to level the bottom out and to me it would lose some of its rediculous-ness. I think the forks now are 8? over, the springer is 16  ;D

I can not for the life of me get the clutch cable in the handle with the adjuster, I can remember the other times I have done it it was difficult, but it just seems like there is no way its going on there? Any tips? Should I unattach it from the bottom end?

Also it charges (via the headlight brightness test) but I am pretty sure there is no regulator rectifier... The battery must be hurtin'
