Duratex Bellstaff Leather Jacket recomendations
« on: December 08, 2005, 04:59:35 AM »
Howdy All,
I've read through many of the post on here about jackets and have come to the conclusion that most people feel leather is typically the best choice in terms of protection.

My question is, how does the Duratex and Belstaff waxed cotton jackets compare to leather? Anyone had any experience with these?

I don't have a ton of money to spend on a jacket, but would like to get something that would work from begining of spring through the end of fall in the north east and perhaps save most of my skin if need be.

I went throught the same process. The good armoured leather jackets were really expensive and the cheap ones didn't feel good, they were hard and uncomfortable. I like the Heine Gericke that I bought, it has a zip out thermal lining and armoured in all the right places. I do think that leather affords the most protection against road rash, but the modern 'fabric' ones also work! If fabric was as good as leather, surely the racing boys would wear it?

I have had 2 wax Belstaffs (one still fits). They are retro now but offer little in the way of real protection. I generally wear a nylon type riding jacket (Fieldsheer) with the back, shoulder and elbow armor installed. Plenty of zipper openings for ventilation,. zip out lining, and good reflective trim. Joe Rocket and others make them as well. Reasonable in regard to price IMO.

I've pretty much always gravitated toward leather since I was a wee little one. I'm still drawn to it.
I'm just wondering though with all of the technological advances in fabrics and protection, if I've been missing out on something.
I mostly want some thing that will give me a feeling that it might save my skin and maybe an elbow. I will spend what I have to get a decent protective jacket, but I also want a good deal. i.e. the best value for my money. (maybe that's not possible?)

As I don't own a Harley, so style is not an issue! :o
I'm not a lemming, so the more different it is the better I usually like things. I figure most of the people on here fit into that mold, otherwise we would be on a different board. ;D
