This fellow is a sheet metal worker from around Peoria Illinois. I think it's safe to say they can be very consistent.  Could be it's a story repeated at many tracks.

Now I'm ready to take it apart for paint and finish. I like the black tank and covers but I have the wrinkle tank all ready to re-finish and I have a beautiful NOS Candy blue green side cover. The bike was candy red when new. So the question is, what color? I will still have the black tank so I can switch back when I'm in the mood.

No pictures yet but on the heads from the previous engine, someone had mixed the long and short bolts from the cam towers. This caused the threads to pull out.  I tapped the stripped cam tower bolt holes out with a 1/4"-28 fine thread tap, bought new grade 5 bolts and all looks good. I didn't even have to pre-drill the holes, I started the tap through the cam tower to make sure it started straight, then finished them, blew and flushed the chips out and the new threads are nice and tight. If I had a bottom tap I think I could use 2- 3/4" long bolts for some more grip too.
Thanks to whoever suggested it on here a while back.

Oh I started porting them also.

I got a low miles 77F transmission for the gear ratio change, I figure if Honda thought they would pep up an F, thats good enough reason to use them and the timing advance unit also. I read the curve is better so it should pep things up a bit, the head is mostly ported now, it just needs smoothing with the cartridge rolls. I found a machine shop that used to do these heads and is willing to work on them again. I'm thinking about buying a new cam now, The teardown will start soon. We will see if it really is an 836 like the PO said. He also called it a 900 and 936 so who knows what is really in there.  The last one turned out to be an 812 so I can use that one if needed. Pics to follow.

I got stalled, my race car is apart all over the shop and my brothers project 78K in stalled with the cases split. I just can't bring myself to tear it down with all this mess.

The dragster is finally going back together and will be in the trailer by the weekend, My brothers 77Kproject is going a little bit at a time and the 75F I bought is finally rideable. So in a couple weeks I should be able to start on the K0 again, since my last post the e-bay tach started reading about double and I bought a new gas cap so there isn't gas in my lap every time I ride. I can re-plate the cast original cap and re-install it with the rebuild. The wrinkle tank still looks like new inside after the acid wash and the engine runs fine except for a leaky shift seal and valve cover.
pictures to follow

Since this post I spent the in between time getting the 76F squared away. I rode them both this summer, I find myself on the F a lot, it has 9K miles and runs like a new one. But is not as fast as the K0. My brothers K7/F7 project took almost forever, it's not perfect yet but it's off the lift and I have ridden it a little.

Well it's been forever but I've finally gotten to a point where I can start on my project again. I have a correct swing-arm and short plastic chain guard. A different tach to try, a correct un-frozen center stand and I've started sanding the tank down. I got my brothers bike off the stand and mine on. After I run the race car next saturday The firebird goes in the trailer, the dragster in the shop and I have the winter to do my best.

OMG it's been 11 months!!! I fionally started taking her apart. I let other people bring projects, then my dragster project got out of hand. (It goes 7.52 at 179 mph now!) acceleration measures 3 G's.
Anyway I took the rear fender,  turn signals, back wheel and swingarm off tonight. The brakes look like new even though they did squeal. I will put new bearings in the lester mags before they go back on. I will show the frame repair and the finish welding of the Gordons kit.

The dragster

I finally started taking her apart. note the left frame tube is Fubar'd. It will be replaced with a piece from another frame. It has been grossly welded at the front motor mount and is split through the entire bottom.

The lower weld joint on the frame tube replacement

The upper weld joint on the same tube

I sleeved them on the inside and drilled holes for plug welds through the frame into the sleeves. The top sleeve was made retractible so I could assemble it. I cut a slot in the replacement tube and then used a punch to move the sleeve up after the tube was slipped in place. Then the slot was welded up.
Note the Gordons frame kit was removed to pull the motor. I re-installed it for the welding of the lower frame and finish welding of the kit. I am researching where to add frame gussets while it is apart.

Notice how level the engine hangs with just the one strap. This is how I always pull them. The far side goes in front of the Dyno then around to loop theough it's self above the starter. One man operation even easier with the frame kit. This frame was hacked before I got it so the kit was a natural. A wrecked 75F donated the center section and lower left frame tube.
We are going to see if the engine really is an 836. The PO referred to it as a 936 or sometimes 900. The last one was an 812 which is OK too.

Well she's in lots of pieces, I owe some pictures.  I've repaired the split frame tube on the left side, welded two gussets under the swing arm area, welded some dents in the frame tubes with silicon bronze rod and dressed them down. The welds on this early model were pretty rough, I can tell they were in a hurry compared to the newer frames around here. i took off a lot of rough spots and weld bb's left from the original frame welding. The drop out frame kit is finish welded now too. It will be easier to re-torque the head now.

Thanks, The race car is the dragster. There's a 40 chevy street rod and a 69 firebird lingering in obscurity and neglect because the dragster gets most (all)of the discrecionary income. Maybe the reason I started the bike project. Something I can handle budget wise.
I've located my powder coater I think, and will post some pics when it is ready to go.

Looks like a good project you have there. Do you still have the sissy bar shown in these photos? If so are you interested in selling it?

Dang, If I said it I have to do it. The powder coater said he couldn't have the parts done before monday AM. it's friday afternoon now. He can do it in two days.
The plan is get the frame back, test fit the parts and then tear into the engine. I want to do a picture of the entire bike in pieces and then pop it together.
Paint will need to wait until after the holidays but needs done before the race car wakes up and starts demanding money again.

I don't remember if I mentioned it but my local bike shop got my new 750 K0 handlebars. They were a little expensive but sometimes you need to support your local shop.

Just back from powder coat missing the frame tag. After re-assuring me he could remove it no problem he destroyed it with the blaster. It mostly loooks good but the rino horn triple tree is full of dirt and lumps
