RIP Soupy
« on: October 23, 2009, 09:34:08 AM »
Another blast from the past gone. He was 83.
He used to frequent the Peanut Bar, owned by my Dad, in downtown Detroit next to the old Tiger stadium.

That, coupled with the fact that I just lost my Mom on the 6th at 82 (11 yrs to the day my Dad went) brings it close to home.
RIP Soupy!

Alice had to know what he was in for :D:

Thanks Operator
It was more about Soupy but I couldn't overlook the connection.
And, needing a laugh, what could be funnier than Alice getting the 'treatment'!

I was one of the kids that ran home from school to have lunch with Soupy.  My wife and I attended one of his shows in the 80's in Southgate, MI.  He told jokes and very funny stories.  Almost all of the people in attendance were around our age.  At the end of his show he began to talk about White Fang and Black Tooth.  The place went nuts.  For a short time we were all kids again.  Later, I just made it home from work to watch his show from L.A.  Just as funny.  RIP, Soupy.

MDub,

The connection is what I am talking about. We see these people on tv and think they are great, and then in an instance like this, someone like yourself has a link to that person, not as a celebrity, but as a normal guy who used to frequent a local bar. He was there to have a beer, not to entertain.

Sometimes the celebrities in our midst are our everyday people, and sometimes the everyday people are our celebrities.......

And I extend my condolences......take the laugh, you need it

Obit said he estimated that he took 25,000 pies in the face in his career. Can't go wrong with the classics.

I remember his sons both played with Todd Rundgren in the early '70's.
I never saw his show, but I do remember him as a frequent panelist on What's My Line.

Wow, thank you for such heartfelt and comforting words, Operator.
She really was a celebrity, and I was her bigggest fan!

Folks, take time to fly, drive, visit, call, and give lovin's to the old folks in your lives.
Take time, to be on a mission, to return some of the love they have shown you throughout your lives.
SPEND some of your time with them.
Play cards, listen to and record/video their stories.
They are your stories.
Make a family tree, and attach names to those ancestral photos.
You will not have a more rewarding experience.
They may not be here tomorrow.
