Value of this CB450?
« on: November 09, 2009, 11:02:05 AM »
Saw a 'cb450' listed in a CL ad, but no info. Requested a pic and several days later get this...

Any value to this thing? It's weird, looks like the muddiest bike I've ever seen but if you look close I don't think there's much rust other than the tank.

$1000.

"Was running when parked."   "Needs TLC."   "Excellent restoration candidate."

Looks pretty far gone from the pic. I think the standard line, "he should pay you to haul it away" is in line here. Looking at the chaf in the frame and engine I bet the wiring is chewed up too. Oh, and it will need a seat.  ;)

yeah, no carbs either. I'll pass, got two projects sitting right now. Would like to dig into one of those 450's someday, look like cool little bikes.

Yah, they are cool bikes, but they vibrate like crazy. I had a new 1973 CB450 for a few months. The vibes were so bad at highway speeds that my hands would fall asleep. The good thing about that was in 3 months I traded for a new 750.

I wouldn't pay any more than $100, those things come along fairly regularly in nice shape for $500 or less.

Hi Zoo Mob
$100 would be fair if it has a clean title.

Hi Johnie
I put a lot of miles on my 1970 CB450 in the seventies. Longest single day was over 700 miles. This year my main motorcycle has been my avatar. The more I ride it the more I miss my CB450.

My gosh...700 miles on the 450 was a long day. Man, I remember those days we could ride forever on 50 cents in gas too. If you are looking for one for the nostalgia of owning another go for it. However, I think I would look for something a bit better. Unless you are getting a parts bike for the bolts and stuff. Then it may come in handy. Offer the guy $25 and see where it goes.

My CB450 vibrates less than the 350 K4 I had - balanced crank seems to solve most of the vibes...

The CB450 is a been there done that as far as I am concerned. I think that the CB750F1 will be soon. Then I will fix the CB400F1.

Maybe haul it away for free would be my best offer.  There is one for sale on the local CL for $500.  Nice shape, complete and running.
