My honda CB750K6 - fuel tank safety
« on: November 12, 2009, 01:23:24 AM »
I have decided to put my CB750 in the house.  My fuel tank is full of gas and fuel stabiliser to avoid the tank from rusting.
My question is:  Is there any other way to protect my fuel tank from rusting other than keeping it full with gas?  This is a safety measure I want to take so as not to have an uexpected fire/explosion inside my house for which my insurance company will not cover me.  Thank you.

Yes, there is another way.
Empty the tank completely and coat the inside of the tank.
Por-15 is a good product to start with.

If there is an incident, I doubt your insurance is going to cover you under those circumstances. At least not in my "neck of the woods".

A properly preped bike tank is not going to rust if left outside.  Do a search on "winter storeage"  Lots of good advice there.

Before I got a garage I would always park my bike outside under a cover during the winter. I would fill gas tank to top as you have done, and then spray all chrome, spokes etc with WD-40 to give it a coat of oil so no rusting would take place. In the Spring would wash it all off and be good go. Just get a decent cover and if possible park under a covered area.

good luck

You can empty the tank and slosh oil around inside. You can slosh Kerosene around inside also.
You can wash out the tank with a solvent dry it completely and leave the cap open. Inside you do not want fumes.

I leave mine in the Garage with a full tank. It is a handy place to store 5 additional gallons for my emergency generator.
