OK, Fellow Americans... Wanna try the fabled Vegemite??
« on: December 23, 2005, 07:06:53 AM »
For any of us in the "lower 48" who have been seduced by the fabled powers of Vegemite (or Marmite, for those of us with much weaker constitutions  ;D) and want to join Terry's legion of converts, there is great news. If you go to the local World Market (go to http://www.worldmarket.com/custserv/store_locator.jsp for the store locator) you can find the real thing, imported directly from Oz. My wife and I were shopping there last night and there it was... I'm a believer now!

Now, before all of you get too excited, a bit of bad news. World Market doesn't have stores in the following states (at least not yet): Oklahoma, North Dakota, Wyoming, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and all of New England (sorry, Michel!).

So, if you guys are overcome with curiousity of what it's like to have "Angels crapping on your tongue" and can't wait long enough to ship from Oz, there is hope for us! :D

We need to do a taste test between V'mite & M'mite. I have tried both and M'mite wins every time, it is a lot stronger than V'mite though.

I know we used to sell it at Whole Foods Market, at least back in the mid 90's.  I'll have to check next time I'm at work.

I guess one way to describe the experience is having Guinness Extra Stout distilled down to a jelly-like base. The website Steve posted the link to is right- it is an acquired taste! (Ever try Bock Beer, where after you drink it there's a half-inch of sediment in the bottom of the glass?)

I liken it to the first time I had Guinness stout. The first time I tried it, I thought it tasted like skunky beer mixed with black liquorice (sp?). However, the dormant Irish genes gradually awakened and now to me Guinness is the only beer that has any flavor. It appears Vegemite is following the same path...

watch it, "mate"...them's fightin' words... ;D

i think Bovril's the big puss this time...bowing the knee to bovine spongiform fright, they not to long ago switched to a vegetarian formula.

Just had my Christmas meal at work,  2am in morning,  stew and dumpplings from a tin.

I finished washing the crockery and was putting it away when I spotted guess what in the cupboard ?

You've guessed it,  a jar of Vegimite.

I had a look and it looked like #$%*.

I had a sniff and it smelled like #$%*.

I sure as hell wasn't tasteing it.   ;D

Wasn't there a Cheech and Chong movie that had a bit with almost the same wording? ;D

Don't worry cb, if it tastes as bad as it smells you wouldn't want to eat it anyway. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Terry I guess I found my Vegemite supply  ;D. I'll do the test and have full pictures to post. Hope to grow and extra set of balls, after all I have an extra everything except the wife and medication  ;D Might be a medical breakthrough for Raul. Now I just need to make and excuse to travel 60 miles one way.  ::) On the bike it would be easy, but it cold....  :-X

I want a blind 'taste off' test between V'mite and M'mite. Terry is brain wahing you that V'mite is better, it is not! M'mite is the original and still the best, the Aussies just nicked out product, made it worse and renamed it. Although, if you are a veggie you would rather eat V'mite!!

Pipe down Jimmy, you're not impressing anyone with that Pommy rubbish. Now if vegemite is made for vegetables, WTF is Marmite made for, Marmots? Urrggghhhh, rat food! Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D
