Oh, and I also just figured out the NH is running on 3 cylinders! Oh joy!!! oh, btw... this bike still has the original dunlop qualifiers on it...I mean like...from 82. So heres my list of to-dos immediately.1- all new plugs, double oil change ( two cycles) run some carb system clean through her...compression check starting with #1!!!dammit. and tires ASAP... I don't know why I didnt notice the missing cylinder when I picked the bike up. The mileage on the bike is 6255...I wonder if lack of use over 28 years let some of the important sealing pieces go bye bye, as the petcock was a leakin also till I rtv'd the shat out of it( ghetto I know...it worked though!)

Don't be too worried mate, with only 6K miles on the clock, unless it's been sitting outside in the snow all it's life, it'll be fine. I'm guessing it's a blocked pilot jet or a valve with no clearance, and maybe a screwed sparkplug. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

When mine ran on 3 cylinders, I found out the rocker cover on the #4 cylinder had the bolts in the wrong place. One is longer than the other. The longer one held the intake valve open slightly, so that cylinder had no compression.

Something to check at least.

RTV is a silicone gasket maker product. It has held so far. The only problem is I have to leave it in the on position, as it was leaking at the lever. that stupid riveted design is garbage. I have another one coming via ebay soon. I also grabbed a 80 cb750 top triple to see if it will fit...those handlebars scare me.

Ahhhh.  My petcock leaks on "RESERVE", but not "ON" or "OFF." (As far as I can find, I have to RESERVE).   :-[

Of course, OFF is not really OFF and it will actually run 80 miles or so on OFF before it starts to bog down a little. (Don't ask me how I know   ::) )

I was looking for the specs for a replacement from Pingle, but no one seems to know the bung size and I'm resisting pulling the old one off because it is such a pain (have to plug the hose with a pencil).

The NOS petcocks are just too pricey for me.

I swapped oil/filter/plugs... put some redline fuel treatment through her... ran the shat out of her in the freezing cold last night... she was running really well, firing on all four, no smoke, motor nice and tight! I am extatic!!!! new tires soon- AVON road riders I think. Oh, and I got the crash bars off last night.
