  • Tryin' To Slow Down "Time"!

Since I have been going online on the pc, I have been able to go to mapquest and print out the directions, along with a map. Well, for some unknown reason, I can't get the info printed out in full. It's as if the it is too big to pint and only prints the left side of what I need. I've tried to reduce the size and it just doesn't seem to work right. If I can't figure out (or find out) how to do what I need, I guess I'll just do it the old fashion way, get a map and mark out the route. I AM in hopes of heading down that way around Tuesday or so . Any help on getting my pc to print out what I need, would be greatly appreciated. I am going to be on a pretty tight schedule too. I had previously found out that I'm looking at a trip that will take about 19hrs and 40minutes one way. NBest I can figure out, it will cost me about $300 (or so) in gasoline alone. I know that my mpg will drop some on the way back because I'll have the Shelby Charger in tow. As I said, ANY info to assist, will be greatly appreciated.

                                                 Thanks, Bill ;)

Does the Mapquest window not have some sort of "printable version" button? Perhaps "printer friendly" or something along those lines? I ususally use google maps and they have it.

Another new ride Billy??? Since you can only drive one at a time you can store it or the GTX up at my place!!

I didn't see a button like that. It seems like I have before, so I don't know what happened. I'll try to google maps and see what comes up. ;)

Well thanks for your offer, I'll keep you in mind, but I'll be looking to take care of things here, so I can use which ever one I want, when ever I need to. ;D I sort of suspect that the Shelby will take some load off of the minivan. After all, the 06' Grand Caravan is only about 3 1/2 yrs old and has at least 122,000 miles on it now. ::)

You just might be right Mick, but I have already made mention of the trip to my Dad and he's all up for it! :-\ Would have been a cool ride though. 8) It will be one hell of a trip to drive (19hrs and 41 minutes one way).

19hrs 41min? Any bathroom or stretching breaks in there?  ::) Oh, a word to the wise, don't push the speed limit in AL, GA or FL. Those cops look for out of staters to bust. I-95 is nasty fast down the east coast so be careful. They really drive crazy on that one. While there, enjoy some of the state. It's not often you can just pop over to FL, ya know. You are literally going to be at the beach. The east side is definitely colder than the west water but I suggest walking out on the sand at least. It is soul cleansing to just stand there, feel the wind on your face, the sand between your toes, listening to the small rolling waves... (I grew up there and miss it a lot.) Boca Raton is just south of there and it's a really nice area to visit. I highly recommend it.

That's straight through, I'm sure. Since I'm having to have my Daughter and Joey ( I work with him) covered, I'll have to make it as brief as possible. I've been to Florida in the past, only 2 times. I went with my Air Force Squadron (from Califormia) to the Panama Beach area (Tyndall AFB) and to Homestead AFB (No longer there) with the Army Reserves, to work with the Haitions years ago (and saw some of Miami back then. My buddy (locally) wants me to stop by Barber's Museum too, but I just don't have much time at my disposal, at the moment. I appreciate the interest though. 8) I'm on a pretty tight schedule though. I've always enjoyed the documentary's that I've seen, about the lower part of Florida. ;)  We'll be making the trip with as few stops as possible, but hopefully "Pit Stops" won't be much more often than Fillups. In my younger days (much younger), I would stop for gas (and take care of everything else like bathroom, eats and drinks all at the same time). I know that bathroom breaks will be more frequent than that now. I think I have to go more often than my Dad and that is weird. ::)

I would recommend getting a GPS unit (buy or borrow).  I've been using one for a couple of years and it's great.  Just enter the destination and it will get you there no problems.  Even if you decide to make a detour it will recalculate your route unlike a paper map.  Features such as ETA, miles till next turn, total miles left, etc are helpful.

I like knowing if the entrance/exit to the freeway are left or right turns especially when towing.  In South Fl driving can get hectic and you can miss the turn.

Also if you plan to meet the owner at a specific time remember we are at least an hour ahead of you.  Don't want to keep him waiting. Don't ask me how I know.

Just a quick  reply to let you all know that we lrft on Monday evening, to get a head start on the trip, in hopes of maybe getting back a little early. Didn't work! I went down using "MapQuest Directions" Never again! Like to never have gotten straight on some of thos directions! Will put some serious thought into a GPS for future attemps. :-\ At any rate, I got the tow dolly down there, got the car (got a BOOK of things to tell about that (all good!) got back in Arkansas last night late and arrived in Little Rock, ahere we got a room to get some much needed rest (at about 2:30AM! this morning!) ::)

Let me leave for now, by telling you all that the Shelbey's 2.2 is now a 2.5 AND the hp presently is about 245 AND with the engine properly dialed in using a dyno, it should be kicking out about 300HP! Got the poop and will elaborate later, after much needed rest. ;)

damn Bill, thats a bunch of power in that light car. sounds like you just need to drop it here at my house so you dont have to deal with all that power  :D i cant imagine driving something with that kind of power now, my ol' saturn only had 85hp when new.

Ya might need to put racing harnesses in that, Bill or it'll shoot out from under ya.  ;D It's like riding a Honda compared to a Harley.  :D

Well, I DID get SOME sleep, but the ratio of sleep vs driving, wasn't too evenly matched. ::) I WAS sleeping pretty good this morning (we got in about 2:30Am) until I was awakened by my cellphone ringing. It was the Greenwood Police Dept (where I live) and I was asked if I was alright. OI said yes, why? I was then informed that the front door of my house was standing wide open. They checked the place and didn't seem to be a problem. There was no sign of a forced entry. The door knob was actually locked (my front door frame is slightly out of align and you have to pull up slightly on the doorknob as you close the door. I thought I had. Anyway, I thanked him, hung up and woke my Dad to inform him that we needed to get up, get dressed and get out of there so we could get back and I could make sure everything was in order. We sailed on in to Greenwood from Little Rock, in a little over 2 hrs. Everything is fine. Got that little Shelby Charger off of that tow dolly and have been having fun with it already. ;)

I have to say that, the way that Lil' car pulls, I can see some folks around her, with their "hot cars", are in for some rude awakenings, for the little Blue car! ;D

is it the 5 speed or automatic? i would suggest beefed up motor and trans mounts and possibly race axles and cv joints.

It's a 5sp and the builder has gone through everything imaginable. He was building a "Track Car" in the beginning and decided that it was TOO nice for that, so he made it streetable. It's got alot of parts from a Shelby Daytona Z car. Let me get the list together, of just what's been done to the car. It's a pretty tough car! ;)
