Removing the gas latch pin
« on: December 13, 2009, 12:25:02 AM »
Can I safely remove and reuse that pin holding the thumb latch on a 750 tank? If so how?

Hi kevin. You can remove the pin with a small drift punch. As it comes out the flared end will flatten out.You can then reinstall and re-flare the end with a centre punch.    Rock On

If the pin is beyond use afterward (and you're not a purist...) Hondaman has stainless screws and acorn nuts available for a few bucks that'll hold your cap and latch on there.  You'll never accidentally scratch your tank up with tools while tightening these finger tight (with a dot of blue loctite) either.

When I bought a cap it did not come with a pin so I just went to the harware store and bough a long bolt (M2.5 maybe?) and a lock nut.  Cut off any excess threads and it looks just fine.

Be careful as I have seen people bend that hinge from smacking that pin.
