Fork tubes for 76 550
« on: December 18, 2009, 03:17:48 PM »
I'm fixing/cafe'ing a 76 550 and noticed the fork tubes are bent. I'm looking for ideas on where to get new or used ones. If they were -1 or -2 that would be even better. It seems CycleX is out of stock though.

Any other places I should look besides eBay? Thanks!

Another question along these lines. How interchangeable are these pipes/tubes? Can you use one from a different year even though the part #'s are different?

Will the pipes from a 78 work with the lowers from a 76, ect??

Any tubes from a 500 or 550 will work.

I don't know if I would totally agree with that. If you do a check of a 76 CB550K fork tube versus a 78 CB550K fork tube on say a site like Bike Bandit the part numbers for the fork tube do not match up. So, are we really sure they are an exact replacement for each other?

The fork tubes for the 77-78 models may be slightly shorter and the forklegs are definitely longer. Assembled height is shorter overall for the latter years.

Well, this isn't looking good, guess I'll keep checking eBay.

Anyone ever straightened slightly bent fork tubes?
