Where can I get one of these for my rear drum?
« on: January 07, 2010, 06:35:09 AM »
Thanks to Doug. I took this picture from his detailed build on photobucket. I need that little black seal. Mine was all shredded when I took the brake apart. I checked most of the parts sites and nobody has one. Is there an alternative to having one? I'm not even sure what purpose it serves since my old one was destroyed anyway. If anyone has an old drum from a 70's cb they are not using I would really appreciate the seal if you can get it thanks. Here it is.

That looks like a 550F/K rear sprocket that normally has another cover over it that has a lip that holds the seal in place...

I had looked at that seal & always wondered what purpose it had...but luckily never needed to do anything to it other than to regrease it & to put the sprocket cover back on again. It dosn't appear to have a major function to it, so i'd not go overboard trying to replace it.

That is exactly where it goes, and I am sorry I forgot to mention the bike is a 75 cb550f. Maybe I can just put a little grease or something in there to help hold a seal? Hmmmmm.  ???

I am not sure if the 500/550 uses it but on some Honda models, they used a snapring in the groove.

Do you think maybe it is used just to keep the two surfaces from touching and corroding? In that case I guess anything could be used.

According to the parts fiche it just a 92x2mm O-ring. I'm not sure where you're based but I just ordered some O-rings for my 550 from http://simplybearings.co.uk/, they arrived the next day.

They list a pack of two 92x2mm O-rings at £4. There must be lots of places in the US you could could get one too.

Guess what? I called the Honda dealer and they said they don't even replace them because they are obsolete. Huh, I guess Honda went a little crazy with the o-rings in some spots.  :-\
