LOVE that bike. Really love it.

(TG, do you know where that bike is now, did the magazine say? Is it still in Italia, or back in Japan?)

I had a feeling that I had seen this bike before...but I couldn't remember where. It's been on my mind most of the day, & have just managed to find what I was looking for. Please don't ask me where I got it from...I think that it was out of a French magazine from many years ago....


The names on the side of the fairing is Chemarin & a H.Rigal. I recognise the first name but not the second...maybe Hubert?

Yes, that should be Hubert Rigal. It is the famous 3-valve CB500R (749cc). They rode it in the Bol d'or.
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

I got some stories,kawi pump gas---check deck,valve to piston,and valve to valve--sweez'in soulder V2V and V2P and deck--check V2V with bent wire tie--"make it lighter and wind it tighter"





Dude...I follow you but how about a more cognitive flow? ;) Valve to piston using solder, valve to valve with big valves in a 900/1000 head, deck, etc, etc I assume. Some of us have been there and done that too. Russ ripped you off???? Geez.......I cannot believe it :o :o ;) Ripped off paint schemes from the 70's.......no way!!!!! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) That S happened....some of it happened to us too. Slow down, explain things....like how Collins ripped you off (you ain't the only one) and get it out. No offense but you are a train wreck when writing stuff.
  I 'll put this out there. What did you run deck at with that old Kawasaki? How tight was squish? Did you tap the head? What did you run valve to valve WITH Ti valves. Did Del West rip you off too? How far did you sink the exhaust valve with a "big" valve to get valve to valve. How much did it kill flow? Did you use stock rods? Who built the crank? I can go on forever. ;) ;D

I am in the process of buying this Dresda framed Gl1000. It is claimed to have been raced in the IOM by Hugh Evans (a Mocheck Honda rider) achieving a 110mph lap, but I and the frame builder Dave Degens, doubt this as there was no class that it was eligible for BUT, does anybody know differently? What is known is that the engine was tuned by Ken Hull (of Honda and YAHTOF fame) for use in sidecar racing. It was not raced in an outfit but was taken to Dresda to have a frame made for, possibly, endurance racing and road use. I have photographs of the directors of Mocheck with the bike outside their London shop.  Can anybody remember this beast racing?

Bill Smith and his Yoshimura tuned CB500 before the '73 Senior TT.
A CB500 only labelled as "German-entered CB500 four", '73 Barcelona 24hr race.
McGurk, CB500, Production TT, "mid 1970s". (Rider name not listed in the book, but can read McGurk on the fairing.)

a rumor i heard was that honda did want the bike back, have no updated info wether the bike is still in italy

BTW, honda didnt just experiment with three valves, the CB400N twin HAS three valves....

Honda has many three valve motors...take a look at teir VF750 1982 Furst V-Twin harle looking cruiser and it's later cousins.

Works well, and at least it works vs the english idea of proper combustion process the AJS, "Triple Knocker" which had two exhausts and one intake.

kind of missed that before, but some crazy french did race a GL1000 in the bol d'or.

I like the use of what look like CBR600 wheels on this bike.


Someone on the old Dorje mailing list was posting about his conversion to CBR600F wheels and forks. I lost contact with the group before seeing the end of that project.
