stock header question about 75-76F and 77-78F
« on: January 23, 2010, 02:17:50 PM »
Does anyone know if the stock 750 F2 and F3 headers are the same as the F0 and F1? I want to make some stainless steel mufflers. I have the F0 and F1 built and tested. I have an F2 frame and engine but no F2 header to check fitment.
When I get this done I also have access to a 79 dohc F header to check out.

I can make these mufflers to slip over the stock header or use the factory gasket and clamp system, would there be a preference? The aftermarket ones I have seen just slip over the pipe. The clamp style would cost a little more because I have to swedge it to size and cut the slots for the gasket and clamp.

The headers on the F1 are different to the F2 where the 4 pipes come together to form one.

As the engines are all interchangeable in the frames eg a K2 engine will fit in an F2 frame and run F2 pipes, maybe the only difference is the size of the header pipe where the muffler fits, and possibly the angle at which the header comes out to fit the muffler on and run along side the bike.

On the F2 the original muffler attaches from a bracket extending down from the aluminium bracket the pillion pegs attach to.

I made my bracket to drop from the passenger peg because I figure more people will have one than have a muffler bracket. I may need to get an F2 header to make sure the same muffler will fit.

I am in Wisconsin and have an F2 header hanging for ?????  It needs a rust-hole patch but should work for a mockup.  If you need it lets discuss.............
