CB750 K0 How to remove steering lock?
« on: January 06, 2006, 05:16:50 PM »
How do I remove the lock cylinder from the lower tree?

I'm changing the tree and want to put the original steering lock on the new one. Just can't figure it out.

The replacement tree does not have a key for the lock

Thanks

David

The PO of my K0 had broken a key off in the lock, it was like that for years. I was shown how incredibly easy this is. Just remove the screw that the little cover plate pivots on as I recall.

Bob

that only seems to let me take off the plastic cover & see inside. Still can't get the lock cylinder out.

I haven't had reason to remove a SOHC Honda fork lock but I suspect it maybe similar to ones I am familiar with, BMW airhead fork locks.  The reason the lock came out with a broken key in it is because the key is needed to remove the lock. Without a key you are faced with drilling out the lock or picking the lock. You may find help about drilling the lock out here:

Or for info on picking the lock read here:

Makes sense now give the difference in our circumstances. In my case, the cover came off and the tumbler set eased right out and I got the piece of key out in two seconds. Sorry if I got your hopes up.  :(

With the info in this thread I managed to remove my lock from a CB250 followed the lock picking advice and soon had it out
Made the tools up as per the link in a previous post and after about 15 mins had it picked and out. :D
