Im very excited that my bike is up and running again.  I took it for a short ride today and it shifts through all the gears and is not smoking or leaking. ;D  It appears to be running rich though.

The engine is bogging out and the acceleration is flat at all throttle positions.  Im running a stock setup except for my air filter which is a UNI filter NU 4055; im not using pods this is direct replacement for the stock airbox.  I tried taking out the UNI filter and performance seemed to improve somewhat.  I also tried it with the stock air filter but that didnt yield any different results.

Im thinking I will try double checking my timing and spark and then start messing with the carbs, namely with the air mixture screw.  Sound right?  or do you think im way off track?

  • WHAT?no gravy?
get that timing spot on with a timing light, have the carbies been syncronized yet?theyll sort of fight each other if not,the air screw really only affects the idle and slightly off idle range.sure the floats are set correctly?im assuming the carbs have been cleaned well and have standard jets.

If it runs better without the filter, any chance you might have over oiled the Uni as a first place to start?

Read the spark plugs.

And read the repair manual.  There is a whole chapter on tuneups.  The 3k procedures are your new best friend!

If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

thanks guys for the great input.  wow :o  i think my brain must be from a different planet cause I did forget to synch my carbs.  Carbs are clean and floats heights were measured.

i'll check out the timing, synch the carbs, and read the plugs and then proceed from there.
