Depends: which model 550 and which 500. Check the parts list for identical partsnumbers.

Just going off of comparison between my bike and my buddy's....  The seat itself (apart from the design of the vinyl cover) appears to be the same, however the latch design is different.  On mine, the seat unlatches with a key....on his, you lock it with a key, but you unlatch it with an additional handle.  Don't know if the assemblies could be switched out.  My bike is a '74 550k and his is a '71 500k.  Hope that helps and doesn't confuse.

74 seat complete with the lock assembly AND mounting plate will fit onto an early 500 but latches will not fit early 500 seat. After late71/early 72 latches were same as 550
