Cb 550f timing

Hello  all,  I  have  fitted  a  new  camchain  on  my  550  useing  a  split  link  and  all  wet  well  untill  I  went  to  set  the  points  plate  up. When  I  go  to  set  the  points up, the  1+4and2+3   seam  to  be  reversed. 1+4 blue  lead  on  left  2+3  yellow lead  on  right. When  I  turn  the  engine  to  set  the  1+4 to  the  f  mark the  point closes instead  of  opening. When  I  go  to  the  2+3  mark  the  1+4  opens.  Reverse???. Hope  some  can  help  because  I  am  at  a  loss  with  it.

I don't know about the 550 but on the 750 the points are not set with a mark - you just have to locate the highest point on the advance cam. This drove me crazy when I first got the CB.

The "F" mark is used to dynamically time the engine with a timing light.

Goos Luck.

Did you dismantle the points advance cam assembly?  It can be assembled 180 degrees out of phase, causing the symptoms you describe.
