I saw an accident on the way in today
« on: February 16, 2010, 10:09:36 AM »
It happened right in front of me.  No one was hurt, but it serves as a reminder of how quickly things can happen.

So the story goes...
The roads are pretty snowy here.  I was going somewhere around 35-40 mph about to go through a light, when all of a sudden the truck in front of me viciously swerves to the right.  Then I see the car that he was trying to avoid.  I applied my brakes in plenty of time to stop, but if I had been daydreaming, I would have T-boned the car.

Here's the worst part:
The two cars initially didn't collide.  They had both come to a complete stop and it was only a really close call.  But the girl in the car saw me coming and, in a panic, stepped on the gas.  She ended up mashing her hood under the truck's bumper.  I, of course, was able to stop with plenty of distance to spare.  So what would have been a heart-pounding close call turned into a fender bender.  Sucks when that happens.

Glad you missed the "fun". T's the season. My wife and I headed back to Ann Arbor from Columbus, OH yesterday about 1:00 PM. Columbus was in the midst of yet another snow storm, but according to the weather models if we could make it to Marion we would be home free. It took two hours to cover the first portion that normally would have taken 30 min. or so. I-71 north was slow, couldn't see the lanes, but moving. I-71 south was a disaster. We passed three accidents that closed it completely in just ten miles. One of them was on CNN this morning. In retrospect, it wasn't a great move on our part. It could have easily happened on our side and we could have been sitting for several hours before they reopened.  :-\
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.
