Speedometer Cable Issue
« on: February 18, 2010, 06:28:43 PM »
I removed the speedometer from my bike. Im wondering if i should be concerned about leaving the mount for the cable down on the front wheel exposed. I was just going to plug it with anything until i noticed how the 1970's techonogogy actually worked.....a little spinning tab. It points up so im worried it will collect water.

ideas?

please dont tell me to just hook it back up guys. first its a 350f its not like im doing 115 on the bike....and it never sees the freeway
thought i might moved to a combo unit down the road

Could you cut the end off an old speedo cable and make a plug out of it? Sealing the hole where the cable would go through of course. Maybe tap the hole and put a small screw or bolt into it, or use an epoxy.

The speedo cable isn't exactly a water-tight fit in the drive housing in the first place, so I'm not sure it will make much of a difference.  You could loosen the axle bolt and angle the speedo drive to point downward instead of up if it worries you.  Don't forget to tighten the axle bolt when you're done. ;)
