reinstalling cam

ill be putting my cam back in eventually but i wanted to clear up a question i had. you ime it off of 1-4 tdc but after you have te cam off and you have rotated the engine how do you know if 1 or 4 is at tdc or does it not matter?

1 and 4 are both TDC at the same time, so it doesn't matter.

the cam spins at one half speed of the crank shaft,,the line up slot on the cam can be rearward on the head,,or forward as per instructions.pistons 1+4 rise and fall together,,as do pistons 2+3,the spark also occurs as say 1 fires and 4 exhausts and visa versa,a wasted spark,the same for 2+3.um,not trying to confuse you.

i understad what you are saying glad i dont have to tear into the cas or something to make sure a piston is on fire or something. i figured that it didnt matter but i didnt want to screw it up.
