Clutch removal

Ok, here is a stupid question....The engine is out of the bike, following the disassembly process in the manual, you take loose the alternator side of the engine first, then you pull the points and clutch.  The manual says to put the transmission in high gear to remove the clutch nut.  Unfortunately the engine won't shift into gear and the trans just spins freely, which keeps me from loosening the clutch nut.  Does anyone have any suggestion on how to block the trans from spinning to allow for the clutch removal?

If you can get access to an impact gun (air or electric) that will loosen the nut.

This is what I did on my engine:

Basically I just had a wide piece of aluminum that I cut three holes in. Two to mount to where the pressure plate mounts and then one big one in the center to fit my ratchet and clutch tool through. Not really what the post were meant for, but it worked for me.
