the whole damn world has gone crazy
« on: March 12, 2010, 06:37:28 PM »
I've a friend who has a daughter 19 yo. in college all paid by the parents.
Supplied her all kind of #$%* for her whole life. Horses, (one I trained and sold to them for a heck of a deal because it was for their daughter whom I sort of look at as the daughter I never had), trips to nice places, etc..... spoiled the hell out of her is my opinion. Anyway, 3 weeks ago she is over at the parents home
(the parents are divorced but still live near each other so they could raise the girl, divorced when she was 12yo I think it was). She pulled in a left her car in at the top of the drive since it was snow covered and the step dad had to move it and it got stuck. No biggie, we'll just push it out when we need too.
Anyway, the daughter is riding the horse and her Dad came in from work and saw the car stuck. He and the step dad try to push it out to no avail. The daughter gets in the car and floors it and begins to rant and cuss. The dad goes to get his jeep, the daughter in the mean time goes back to her horse.
The Dad comes back and goes to get the key and will pull the car out by himself, just put in neutral and all. He ask for the key, the daughter flies into an uncontrollable rage and cusses her dad out. (All this witnessed from a distance by the step dad). The Dad grabs her by the sweater only to calm her but this doesn't work. He leaves. She gets her boy friend on the phone and screams assault. The daughter has had a history of out burst the last couple of years.

Today, the judge seems to know the score but says, since you actually touched her. It's assault. The judge is a #$%*ing pussy in my opinion and that's the problem with this country. We've become a country of pussies and run by pussies.

Rant off.

oh yea, assault is based on common law measuring intent and no intent was to harm, perhaps calm but not harm.

Somebody needs to cut some purse strings...

You think that attitude will clear up when that college money goes bye-bye, car goes bye, roof under her head goes away?

Maybe not.

thats the problem today, corporal punishment has been turned into a bad word, now if you spank a kid you go to jail and the kid gets put into foster care. this young lady needs to have all of "her" stuff sold on her to pay for the fathers legal bills.

the purse strings have been cut. This whole sense of entitlement thing so prevalent today is seen in this situation and
it's clearly evident here and at the far end of the spectrum.

Our boys got their fair share of corporal punishment. I remember when the oldest boy was about 5, Tracey showed up at the shop and said she'd broke the yard stick or something on his ass and he laughed. I cut a cherry paddle out right then as he watched and he didn't laugh when it was applied to the seat of his pants.  In fact I remember when the oldest was about 17 or 18 and the youngest was
15. The oldest cussed me and I tackled him, the youngest thought he'd try to help his brother. They both limped a few days.
See, I'm sort of old school, though I wasn't raised with a dad. I remember the John Wayne movie where the son mouthed of to him
and he knocked him in a mud hole and said, "If you won't respect your elder at least you'll respect your better." (0r something like that ;))

I don't know anything about her other than the story you posted, but it sounds more like "spoiled rotten 19 year old #$%*" than any kind of psychiatric disorder.

maybe i could send her some of the prozac they give me?  Robert, thats exactly how i was raised except it wasnt a yardstick at my house, it was a wooden spoon, a large one. more than once one was broken but i was never foolish enough to laugh at it. i always respected my parents no matter what they did or said, i worked hard for what i had even as a teen. dad helped me buy my first car, he matched every dollar i put in but after that if i wanted a new stereo for the car? i paid for it. youre absolutely right about kids today and their sense of entitlement. they know there are going to be no real consequences for their actions and that is where we, as a society have gone wrong. frankly i think kids should have their holidays off like now and a 2 week vacation during the summer months and school the rest of the year.

I suspect your right, that would be my opinion also, but you know the world today has to make a big
psychological deal out of every misbehavior. All these labels do in my opinion is remove the responsibility
of the individual from his/her actions. What I'm trying to say is, if you can blame some disorder or another
then it really isn't your fault.

Well- there's extremes in both directions.  My father finally stopped hitting me when the look in my eye told him I'd kill him if he touched me again.  I still remember the moment;  I didn't have to say a word.

With this young lady, it's my observation that people buy stuff for thier kids when they have no time for them- in an attempt to compensate.   It's like dogs;  just putting up a store-bought dog house and feeding them doesn't mean you're caring for them.  The fact is- you're abusing the dog.  Many people blame behavioural problems on the dog, and "take it back".  You're stuck with your kids, and the kids know it- and feel angry.  As well they should.

When I get to be king of the world, you will have to pass stringent education and testing before your fertility is turned on.

yep, I'm sure there are these extremes, but, the making of rules based off the extremes is the problem.

with this young lady, the parents tried to do everything for her that they wished had been done for them growing up. That is wrong.
That reasoning is skewed because your going back to your childhood wishes (which isn't mature). They hauled her around to all kind of events etc.... typical of most parents now a days. The inability to say no. This kid feels angry because, she can't keep demanding all
the things she could when younger, why, because her demands have snowballed to the point where the parents can't afford to supply the goods. Now when they say no, or ask her to act like an adult, she can't accept no which is part of learning to be an adult.
(you can call me Doc RM Ernie.)

personally I think if the national weather service would stop issuing flood warnings etc..... we'd weed out a lot of the

Having raised two daughters, I will say there is that point in the teenage years where they hit the princess syndrome and I think it's because there is no challenge in their lives except what's going on in their peer group, I think the way around it is universal service from 16-18 and I mean universal no body buys out of it no matter who's children they are, I also don't mean just the military, it would provide a healthy dose of reality about life, it would disseminate  societal norms, it would help the country, it would give them a chance to do things they never would in the future, to see how other people live, it would give them a chance to think, pause and try to make choices about their lives before going on to do what they want, would it solve every thing of course not, but it would cut down on the hollywood, bollywood unrealizem that they now experience and if you think I'm daft go look at wedding dresses as a quick and dirty way to see what is foisted on them, or watch TV shows that deal with weddings. As far as spoiling kids go, that is too prevalent, like Ernie say's too many people buy things and not enough people spend time with their kids.

the whole bad scene has also been enabled by a 26 yo boy friend who also suffers from
the victim mentality. Seems he's in AA and all. Of course he blames the world, society, and his
broken home raising for his addictions. When the whole incident happened he told her
to not talk to either of her parents but to call the cops, blah blah blah.....

Well, now I wished I'd picked my friends better 15 years ago because, I'm friends with all
concerned. (and their damn yankees to boot, I'm such a sucker.)
If I'd been smarter I'd not have any friends and wouldn't feel I need to get in it.
I am though and the boy friend and the little miss will hear from me today.
I'll be bringing the horse I trained back to my pasture too. It's no longer hers.

i have been saying the same thing about nationally required service, with no buy-outs whether it's military or other.

Tramp I do agree with u on that, alotta kids now adays get spoiled and they think they can get away with anything. When i take my kids to the store and they start acting up they want this and that i just leave the buggie where it is and go home. they general the next time we go they are much better behaved. Because when we get home they know mommy not in good mood after a display like that, they automaticaly go to thier room and sit there for an hour to think about thier actions.

Bi-Polar   >:( :( :) :-[ :'( :-\

I agree. It's too easy to just say the kid is spoiled rotten and waffle on about what a good parent you are, or your folks were etc. My older brother (53) wasn't spoiled as a kid, but he's done time in jail for flying into a rage and trying to strangle his wife, and he gave me a serve and a half a couple of years ago that I probably won't ever forget.

Other times he's a great bloke, generous, friendly and outgoing. His disease has cost him his marriage, his business and his home. He told my parents that he was thinking about moving back home at one stage and I feared for them, he's a big guy and if he goes off his meds, I'd hate to think what he is capable of.

Yes "Bi-Polar" is a relatively new name for an old disease, (manic depression) but regardless, it's real, and its scary to watch an episode. Obviously, not every "tantrum" is a bi-polar episode, but reading your description, I'm guessing that the girl is displaying some key indicators of mental disease. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Really?  It seems to me like it's easier to just claim some psychiatric disorder is to blame instead of taking responsibility for your own actions or inactions.
