cb400f muffler options
« on: March 15, 2010, 05:02:47 AM »
hello all, im new here and new to my honda cb400f super sport (in yellow)

just picked this bike up on the weekend, good condition, 20k miles (!) but it had sat for a long time and the muffler/end can has quite a big rust hole at the base..

there is a small blow on the collector of the original headers. i really want to keep the original headers so will look in to fixing these.

with regards to the muffler, ive seen a pattern one for 59 pounds (im from england). i was wondering are there any other options available? the previous owner had fitted pods and removed the airbox so will have to look at the jetting, so a better performance end can is a possibilty, although im not having much luck finding one. any ideas? or will best performance been gained with stock?

with regards to the headers, they seem to have lost some chrome in places so im going to wire wheel and have the hole/blow fixed by a welder. was then planning to paint with high temp paint and wrap.

thanks for any advice

There MAY be a Yoshimura replica available, not sure.  I'd check out Yamiya and see what they have.

Check out MAC.  Other than getting an OEM type from overseas, the MAC exhausts seem like a cost effective solution.  Not sure of the quality but they are real nice people to deal with over the phone.  They can also so some custom work as well.

A stock Harley Sportster muffler works well and can be found for cheap because everybody switches them out for something louder.
