Crank Question
« on: March 24, 2010, 02:41:13 PM »
Does the oil flow (somehow) through the crank innards?

The reason I ask is ....what are the holes in the bearing lobes for? A reservoir?
Also....what are the little ball bearing thingies on the end of the lobes for?

Just curious.

Thanks
Steve

Flows from the support bearings to the connecting rod bushing.

The upper case is under pressure, oil flows into each crank journals from there, and flows into the crankshaft and out the conrod journals at which time it loses its pressure and falls to the sump after being slung around under the pistons. I'm a little foggy about getting from the crank journals to the conrod journals, must be a passageway in the crank.

Or maybe I'm wrong altogether.

The little balls seal the drilled oil passages, after drilling.

The oil comes through the main, then through that passage to oil the connecting rod.

Thanks for that. Clears up a gap in my thinking.
