New here and inspired!
« on: January 17, 2006, 02:38:30 PM »
After lurking for awhile, I have to give thanks to all the great posters here for inspiring me to get back in the saddle! I got me an Ebay '76 550 Supersport sitting in the driveway, and I'd like to not leave well enough alone. (And you know what I mean...) I'm wanting to add some meat to the rear kinda like the machine on this link... http://www.bratstyle.com/custom/73/73.htm .  I've read about using a 750 swingarm on a 550, (don't see anywhere if that is do-able or not), and maybe using a 750 with drum brake rear wheel so as to fit a bigger and wider tire. I like that seat too, as opposed to fitting a solo seat. Any one done any of this and can offer advise? I've already made the wife mad enough buy buyin the bike without spending way too much more, so looking for cheap and easy bolt on ebay parts to make it happen. Don

Welcome back to the dark side  ;D

Allot of guys, myself soon to be included  ;D , run a 16'' HD rear wheel laced to a Honda
hub in order to run a thicker tire in the rear. Users CBJunkie as well as Paulages here on this
site both run 16'' HD rear's, and look good. Mine should be all toghter in a week or so...

You might also look into running an extended swingarm, to get the rear tire farther out from the frame.
the bike in that Link looks to either have a ext. arm on it , or relocated rear shock locations.
Maybe it's just me ::)
Sweet bike though............

Welcome aboard, Don.  Now get on over to the gallery and post a "before" picture of your 550.

Welcome Don, Please do as Teach suggested.
After you've done that, burn your credit cards and close your eBay account. You can thank me later! ;D

I just put the bike to bed under a tarp in the driveway... couldn't talk my wife into letting it sleep in bed with us. I'll go take a few snaps tomorrow and post them. I also grabbed up a set of the Boge rear shocks everyones been getting on ebay. I see a 750 swing arm there... should i get it too? I really love to see all the 550 lovers here! I've wanted one since I bought that CB 350 when I was a senior in high school about a thousand years ago. Don

Hey Don,
While spying on you, I checked out your website. Interesting indeed.
I'm still in the market myself (as I'm having trouble finding an available woman who fully appreciates SOHC4's), but my brother is newly engaged. I'm going to run your site by him and his fiancee as I think they were looking for ideas.

Thanks, guys! DiscoEd, it's gonna be a blast riding my CB to the Harley dude weddings I perform over the Myrtle Beach biker week! I usually have several weddings during those events, and I'm going to be loving it! They think theirs are the only machines worth owning...

Very nice place! I've got to be up at Topsail Island at 1 on the 20th marrying someone, then back at Sunset Beach for a 5pm ceremony...maybe during the week I can drop by and say hi!
