Anyone seen this helmet yet?
« on: March 26, 2010, 05:25:12 PM »
I was searching for a new helmet today and came across this DOT approved helmet from Bell.  I know it's not as safe as a full coverage helmet, but you know, sometimes you just want to look good.

I did a face plant on dirt with a helmet like that
(when I was younger and better looking).  >:(

That is all I ever wear, the one I got in the 70s.. No faceshield all winter, either..

But I am thinking I could use a new one.. was looking at the Fulmers in SLC last Sept..

Think a faceplant us bad in them, I have done it without a helmet, and I mean hard enough that my feet came off the ground 2 ft.... not my proudest moment.... :-[   :o

I think those helmets are perfectly safe for gettin groceries or cruisin around. but it's nice to have a full face for high speed death races. the puddin bassin's however are ridickeless. my buddy wears one and I just don't get it.

I dont know Greasy I think most open face helmets are not the safest no matter how much padding they have. All it takes is a face plant at 30 mph (while getting the groceries) to ruin your teeth/jaw etc. However, saying all that you cant be safe all the time - just not possible no matter how hard you try. I recently watched "Mondo Enduro" a movie about 7 British guys riding round the world on DR350s...guess what they wore (when they actually wore helmets) - open face Bell helmets  ;).

Ride safe!

I agree, there are no hard lines here, it's degrees of safety I guess. just saying I wouldn't want to rely on an open face alone, but I don't think you need leathers and full face for going 2 blocks.

actually when I was a kid, I'd find old helmets at thrift stores take out the foam and put padding in, paint em and wear em. super stupid! I had no idea!

and I had a friend die not too long ago from 'trying to look cool'

IMHO the open faces may 'look cool' but so can a full face. as I've said before, though the 1/2 helmet looks ridiculous. like you're one of the mushroom men from Mario Bros. jus my opinion, we can still be friends if you wear one, I just get to laugh at you behind your back. and when those things were standard moto bikes didn't go much faster than pedal bikes.

I hear you Greasy -Ive only ever worn full face helmets - even though when I was younger I did have one of those 70`s helmets with clip on visor picked up at a yard sale ..but it did take me across the states. Thank goodness I never crashed as it would have been next to useless. I also agree with you about the Mario mushroom head look  - very funny.

cheers
