thanks for the comments on the bikes. I too love the 750. its been my dads since he was my age and ive never seen it run, so it will be an awesome project for us. even more excited when i started learning more about the sohc4's and the tracy bodies. until this forum that is the only one i had ever seen. i think we still have some of the original parts too, i know i have at least the tank (its the only proof the bike used to be gold.)

Also, on thread topic, i rerouted the cables to where my service manual says they ought to be and it helped slightly. still not great but better. I can actually get the slides all the way open i think now. but on the topic of the push cable, boy am i glad i kept that on there. opened it up today and they stuck at WOT. :o
the spring is not broken so i dont know what is happening now. but it scared the $#!+ out of me for a second.

i've realized now also that at idle. the linkage isnt coming all the way down to the idle stop screw. and it still idles high (sometimes up to like 2-2.5k rpm) until i push down on the brass caps on the #1 or #2 carb. what do i need to adjust to bring everything down so that i can actually adjust idle speed with the stop screw?
And what the heck could have made my throttle stay open like that?!

thanks for the help guys.

PO said he tried to mechanically sync them. i assume he didnt do a great job. i will vacuum sync soon as i can get my hands on a set of gauges or a carbtune. i've been reading about how to make a fluid "manometer" but not sure i want to go that route. A friend has a yamaha R6 track bike and has a lot of those special tools so i'm hoping hes got a set.

I'm new to these carbs does anyone know if theres a picture or something with labels as to what adjusts what on them? i know things like the air screw and idle stop. but i see set screws and nuts at each arm that goes from the rod to the carb bodies (where those little metal tabs are that connect 1 to 2 and 3 to 4). and i've read elsewhere that there are adjustments to be made on the slide itself in the body of the carb (except on #2 apparently?) I dont even know where to begin i guess is my problem. i dont want to go thru syncing them if my current basepoint is this far out of whack? any info or links to good threads that explain this kind of thing would be a huge help.
til then i'll continue reading FAQ's hoping ill stumble upon my answers.
Thanks and take care.

The slides are probably sticking if it was at WOT.  I would recomend pulling the carbs and giving them a good cleaning.
