You found one of the 'got to have it' buyers........Good for you!  Just so you know you could get in trouble real fast......If you will repaint my K0 and put new decals..pipes..airbox..chainguard..seat..and a few other smallish items on for $2500 my bike will be in your garage next week!  Just that......I'll do the tune-up and buy the chain and tires.

Anyhow..........sometimes it just good to know that another sandcast 750 will be on the road....or in a museum.
I think your bike may need more stuff than mine. I checked all the prices on eBay of the major things I needed..... added $500 for the paint job.... and a few more hundred for misc.... yup... added up to about $2500. If you really want your bike redone I can find all the items you need, have it painted (about $500 if you don't have any bodywork), take it mostly apart, clean, polish, and touch up the frame paint. While I am at it..... change the plugs..... change the tires..... even put on new sprockets if you wish. All for the bargain price of $1200 plus the parts. To top it off I will not keep your bike more than a month, unless the paint holds me up. Of course, you will have to make a list of parts and buy them first. The only catch being..... you must deliver personally and pick up personally. So..... do you still want your bike in my garage????

Just curious...how much of your $2500 budget did you put in for a proper exhaust?

If that uses unnumbered pipes, you wont have much change left after you get pipes and the seat....

maybe no change at all.

How much do you think pipes would have cost..??

My guess is he is not going completely stock with the pipes.. He seems to know his stuff and is probably just do the best he can..

However its pure speculation on my part..

Thanks Swoop............I'm not arguing or sending my bike.........I am just trying to point out that the correct pipes with all shields and baffles, along with an airbox, a chainguard (if you can find one), the correct decals, and a good seat with a metal base will cost more than $2500.

I have restored a half-dozen bikes and cleaned, polished, and tuned a few more. Mostly Honda and Triumphs. I always seem to run over budget...........but its a great way to accomplish getting your hands dirty.

IMHO... I'd say you need about 15k to redo this sandcast at a minimum. 20k would be more like the average.

Lets say you knew where there was a 750 high number sandy 2nd owner, needs a right side cover, correct handlebars with stock cables  needs a plastic gauge case and has a cracked air box, can't remember which one. Candy red, almost all original, never restored, always serviced by the current owner.  He's no dummy and has owned these bikes from day 1. May even be a lurker here. How much cash would be reasonable to lay on the workbench to make an offer?

I'm still wondering who on here bought it. Anyone? It was supposed to be put on here 1st and he already sold it, so I'm assuming someone on here made him an offer. I'm waiting on the build thread.  ;D

No no.. no one sold it. dewjantim just bought it at auction, and has just brought it home (hence the pictures) and so he was talking about how he was going to fix it up and others are just giving their thoughts on it..

OK guys, here she is...... my diamond in the rough. Just talked to a guy in Louisiana and he says to consider it sold. I gave him what I thought was a fair price and he took it. If it falls through...... I will post again. Of course, I never thought that I would get $10,000 for a bike which needed some work and I didn't get it. Would sure like to keep it (about $2500 and it would be nice...... according to prices currently on eBay) but my wife says I don't 14 motorbikes.... rare or not. Anyway here are some pics......

it says here he sold it to a guy in Louisiana. Did I read that wrong?

Ron............If its original and fairly clean........maybe just a little paint on the motor cases starting to peel and the exhaust is very nice.........Upper teens $$$ to be in the game.  Anything less and its a steal or a good friend.

I'm only guessing but member Donzie is from Louisiana and has several classic Hondas.

Don from Louisiana bought it. Pipes are on eBay for $1198 buy it now.... supposed to be original 69' pipes. Repos are available from GB for about $800 plus shipping. Hey guys, I am retired and don't have anything to do but build bikes and scout the internet for bargains on hard to find items. Also I am involved in a network of friends who will pass on deals to me if they don't want them. I like to collect and work on mostly Italian and German bikes. It is much harder to find parts for them than for Hondas. Not only that...... I will buy a rare part for the right price even if I don't have a bike it will fit. I have a whole shed full of this kind of stuff. And no, I,m not a hoarder who  collects rare parts keeping someone else from finishing their project. Many times I will give my stuff away to friends for their projects or if someone I don't know needs my stuff I will sell for a reasonable price. Cheap bargains are out there, cyberworld is a huge place...... deals are there, you just have to look for a while. I was suprised how many parts are available for sandcast Hondas and how cheap (compared to Euro trash) most really are. So, if you want a rare part don't get in a hurry to buy one...... it will turn up cheap eventually.

Dew, those 69 pipes may not be correct for that Serial # range. If there is a notch under the brake pedal, they are not correct for early sandcast..

While I agree with a lot of what you say, you may be overlooking  HOW HIGH the Demand is for true sandcast parts..
Maybe a bit easier to understand this way.. If you have a Ducati Mach 1 tank or frame or clipons (I mean correct stuff), the supply is small, and people in the Know that have the stuff , are not giving it away cheap..

I am thinking a trip to that place I got my early sandcast from, is in order, I did not get the pipes, they were in a shed full of wood.. might still be there..

I am pretty sure that the sandcasts did not have a 4 into 1 option. Your exhaust may be worth considerably less than what you estimate. (If its the one on the bike in the pics on the previous page)

Swoop he meant a set of Originals on ebay , that were available..

Buying or selling, everyone will fib a bit, at least no shortage of that going on..

When I had my 69 in the Tsawassen Show in 2000, I had a guy trying to give me a deposit on my bike, he was from California..
I should have taken it as he did not pull through.. Anyway, he gets a hold of his "expert" buddy in California, and he phones me and tells me he has had many of them , and it is worth *K tops.. but I declined.... 8 months later I had the urge to sell it, when the dust settled I got over 1.5 X what he said it was worth..

the best deal.. one where the seller & buyer are both happy..

Oooops....my bad.

The pipes you are referring to on ebay are the 300 "paragraph" pipes. Not suitable for a sandcast. Yamiya has the close to correct ones for $1757.44 USD..plus shipping. What you really need for the under 4000 numbers is the lotus root exhaust which is even more expensive...if you can get them.

But I am sure that Donzie knows this.

Its not an export bike, (by that I mean not sold in North America)
I believe they started in the 5K + range.

Differences are in airbox, pipes I think, Tailight & rear fender, switches, probably a kilo speedo, things like that.

OK guys, the real buyer was Don's friend. I got the money the other day. According to what many of you have said he got a pretty good deal. I hope he thinks so also. All that matters to me is that my wifey made a few bucks on a motorcycle since she is always after me about buying motorcycles. I was talking to my painter the other day and he says there are still several sandcast bikes in my area. You can bet that I will be trying to track them down..... so stay tuned for more sandcast bikes if I can locate them. Oh yeah, anyone interested in a CB350...... make a nice cafe bike or even restore. Will be looking at it today or Monday......
