y'know, i'm reading this thread and it seems that you heard in 90% the electric guitar only. I like to go to the roots, so switch off the amps, take from their hand the pick, and what do you have? From names above only very few would stand. Switch off the fuzzes, and all electric/electronic gizmos, and then try to beat....
Billy Mclaughlin (do NOT mistake him with John), Don Ross, Wiliam Coulter.
try to find thoise - you will hear what a REAL skill sounds like....
That's all i'm saying....
True enough - but don't forget David Rawlings and John Fahey...
That's like hypnotizing chickens...

Eddie Van Halen, definitely worthy of multiple mentions in the Best Guitarist thread, has entered rehab.

Are you joshing, or can he actually play? I've only ever heard (rather than seen) his live stuff, and assumed he was accompanied ???

Nigel Tufnel. He goes to 11.  ;D

Nigel Tufnel: The sustain, listen to it.
Marty DiBergi: I don't hear anything.
Nigel Tufnel: Well you would though, if it were playing.

Hell yeah 8)

I think the thing that's always impressed me most about Joe Walsh is the way that he 'appears' to be putting next to no effort in 8) Meanwhile, your traditional guitar hero always tends to look like he's competing in the World Gurning Championships :)

So, I sold my CB over a year ago, but I got an email that there was a reply to this thread from long ago. I have since discovered a new favorite guitarist: The Reverend Horton Heat

I saw them live a few weeks ago. They ROCK.
