Gawd no -- I won't be parting it out. It's too nice and I got the title in hand just yesterday. I've got a new ignition switch and battery, and am still waiting for a petcock rebuild kit. Time is the hardest thing to come by at this point.

I cleaned the bike up a little bit so far, but still have to go through all the electrical connections, rebuild the front caliper, see what the inside of the carbs look like and work toward getting it started.

I'm not really the type to do a cafe conversion or polish everything -- I don't have enough time and certainainly don't have the space. My plan is to get it running nice, make it safe, clean it up as good as I can, get the tank and the sides painted black and ride it like that.

Also see this post.

Basically I don't love the side-cut pipes on this thing -- think it looks weird on a Japanese classic. I think it's a Jardine or Mac 4-2 set up where the head pipes plug directly into a 1-piece collector/muffler on each side of the bike. I haven't even started the thing up, so I'm not worrying too much at this point, but I may either buy new 2-1 mufflers or I may just cut the end off of these from the side-cut back.

Wow, I feel a little dopey having paid for mine!

My 350F has side cut pipes too and it's awful loud for a 350.  As a matter of a fact, it's louder than my 900F Supertrapp pipe.  I'd like to chop the side-cut off and stick some kind of baffle in there, but I don't have the slightest idea how to do that correctly.  I'll be following your progress for ideas, so keep us posted.

You are a credit to the human race rescuing that bike. That shows the true nature of we New Yorkers.  ;D

This is the second free classic Honda I've gotten in New York City. First was a very nice 73 350 twin that a kind neighbor signed over to me because he didn't want it any more. A simple clutch change and clean up and it was a perfect birthday gift for my father-in-law, who rides it around near his house upstate.

This one was different. I walked by this bike -- which was behind a fence in the parking lot of an senior citizen project/public housing buliding -- day after day on my way to the subway for about three years. I watched it get rained on, snowed on, pooped on (by birds), and baked by the sun. It made me so sad every day to wonder what callus soul would just park it out there to die a slow death in the elements. I thought about rolling it away, but knew I had no right. I left a note on it once, and watched over the course of weeks as my note withered in the weather. So when I saw the big sanitation notice pasted on it, I knew it was time for action.

I'm eager to see whether it runs or not! Won't have time to check till next week.

What was the process you used  for getting a title?

I was told a judges order was good for my state, and I have been thinking about filing a small claims lawsuit against my bike.

I guess that's the way that would work.

I did a bunch of background work on my own to determine that the bike wasn't stolen, and that it was definitely abandoned. Then I basically did the same thing that the major title services do (ITS and Broadway) but I did it with an individual instead of the service.

So you had someone in another state title/register it and then they 'sold' it to you?

How exactly did you do this?

Look into the methodologies of ITS and Broadway Title Service -- same process.
