Nitrogen Filled Shocks
« on: April 06, 2010, 05:06:10 PM »
I've been looking into replacement rear shocks for my CB650, and this looked like an interesting buy. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140397130098&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching

Other than for aesthetics reasons, will this be a much of an upgrade in terms of performance, or are their better options? In theory the idea of a nitrogen filled shock seems like good concept, but in real world situations will I notice the difference over a pair of $100 standard shocks? It seems to be difficult to find eye-clevis style mounting on many shock, and although I could get some sort of adaptor or bracket welded to my swing arm, I'd prefer to avoid that route.

So what do you all think, good or bad buy?  :)

I bought a set of those because they were cheap. I have since read that they are not very well built especially around the bottom where they mount on the swingarm. I read a thread on another forum where the guy built all the bottom parts from stainless steel and he is now very happy with them, the actual shock is supposed to be good, just some of the mounting parts are made of crap. I haven't used mine yet and will probably modify them to suit one of my bikes when needed..

That's some interesting reading, and while I'm not against modifying parts to make them fit, I am against modifying new parts to make them work properly in the first place. I think I'll be avoiding these.  :-\

Does anyone else have any options they would recommend? I've been looking into used systems off of other bikes but its been a pain to find ones that will fit.  ???
