Cable rip off...check this out!
« on: April 08, 2010, 10:46:44 PM »
My partner's Suzuki needed a new clutch cable (so coincidentally so did my 650 Honda) so I ordered a new cable from David Silver in England ($30 delivered to my door here in NZ).
I told my Jaffa that she better pop down to the local Suzuki dealer and order a new one for her bike too.
$100 bucks! $100 friggen bucks for a stock standard off the shelf clutch cable???!!!!!!! >:(
Anyhow I noticed that her cable didn't fit very well at the clutch lever and sure enough when I got it off it was way too small.
My Honda one was a perfect fit to her lever!
Also the adjuster at the motor end fitted very similar to my Honda's one even though the Suzuki fits into the motor from the top of the engine casing and the Honda fits up from under the motor.
The length is negligible (about 2") so I'm just gonna buy 2 Honda ones from David Silver. ;D
Damn those older Suzuki parts prices! >:( I should have bought her that CB400 when I was going to! :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

DS used to have a link on their site to:-

http://www.robinsonsfoundry.co.uk/suzuki/spares_direct.html

But they bin bought out as you can see, if they wont ship direct i will buy it and ship to you.

Also CMSNL do Suzuki spares and have the parts fiches on line

Hmmm - I just recently checked on a Suzuki speedo cable for a 1972 GT750 and it was only $26 at the Suzuki dealership here (Canada).  Maybe aftermarket.  Can't imagine dumping $100 on a clutch cable.

Man, at THAT rate, can you imagine the cost to replace the clutch, throttle, speedo and tach cables all at the same time? ::) Boggles the mind! :-\

Thanks for the offer Bryan but I've bought 2 from D.S. so I'm OK at the moment.
I just find the price difference with Suzi and Honda parts amazing, I've been rebuilding both makes for decades but never noticed the price difference.
It would be great to have direction to a useable Suzuki parts site if there is such a thing.

Try www.cmsnl.com do Suzuki then look up parts by model I used them for some fork slider allen bolts to inner damper (odd thread) along with the copper washers (wierd size) took a couple weeks but got them

I went to this page

http://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gs400-1978-c_model13420/partslist/FIG-47.html

Which is a 400C and the cable was listed at  14 Euro (about £11 gbp or $17US)

The only problem with CMSNL is the postage.  It's way more than David Silver..
