Newbie with question(s)
« on: April 10, 2010, 08:59:06 AM »
Hello all,
Good looking group here, hoping u can answer a couple of questions.

1st off, I am looking at a 80 CB650 with 16,000 kilometers showing on the odometer.
Good looking machine from pics, (no rust showing, tears in seat, dents, etc.)
What, other than the obvious 30 yr old bike things, should I keep an eye out for?

I am going to look at it today or tomorrow, and would like to have a little more info on
suspect problems.

Secondly, most pics I have seen of this bike, have comstar rims and 4 into 4 pipes,
this 1 has spokes, and 4 into 2 (1 pipe per side).  Different model?

Owner says it runs good, needs a carb cleaning, battery, and a little TLC....asking $1000.

Will report back, with some pics after seeing it.

Much appreciated and regards,
Rick

Here's a link to the model year descriptions...

http://www.sohc4.net/index.php?q=content/model-guide

Other than 30 years on a bike (which coincidentally affects nearly everything) I don't know of anything specific to the 650 models as far as problems.   If the bike runs, ride it and negotiate from there.   If you get the 'It ran fine when I parked it, I think it just needs carb work", then I think $1000 is high for essentially a non running bike.

Welcome to the forum!

Tim,
Thanks for that link, and she is a runner, just needed a good battery to start. As per model description,
she would be a CB650, SC had the comstar wheels and 4 into 4 exhaust.
